WASC Recommendations
What is WASC?
WASC stands for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The purpose of the Commission is to foster excellence in elementary, secondary, adult and postsecondary institutions, and supplementary education programs. The Commission encourages school improvement through a process of continuing evaluation and recognizes institutions through granting accreditation to the schools that meet an acceptable level of quality in accordance with the established criteria.
The responsibilities of the Commission are:
- Establish bylaws for the governance of the Commission
- Establish criteria for accreditation
- Grant accreditation
- Maintain adequate financial resources
- Maintain complete and accurate records of accreditation reviews and actions
- Perform other functions consistent with the bylaws and operational guidelines
- Participate in accreditation visits.
In 2019 BHS received a 6 year accreditation. This year, BHS has it's 3 year mid-cycle virtual visit. We would love to have parents participate in our virtual process. If you are interested in participating please call our front office to see how you can support this process.
BHS Recommendations from our 2019 Visiting Committee:
- Focus on rigorous and responsive instructional practices across all content areas that support student acquisition of content standards and language and literacy skills.
- There is a need to create an authentic college and career success culture by focusing on the California School Dashboard indicators.
- There is a need to continue to explore and implement best practices and multiple forms of formative assessment to guide rigorous and responsive instructional practices.
- There is a need to develop and monitor responsive systems for two-way communication with all stakeholder groups.
