The Connection Week 10 Term 3
Huapai District School 30th September 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tomorrow marks the end of our third school term! - a term like no other I might add.
To our families - thank you for all you have done and been through over this term. Well done on keeping things together, for supporting your children and seeing that they stay connected and engaged with our online learning.
To our children, we acknowledge things have been different, challenging and at times lonely. The strength of family has shown through. However, the absence of seeing your friends regularly is tough. We would say well done.
To our staff, every day and all day they have been there on line and interacting with children. We have seen some really precious moments, some wonderful acts of kindness and creativity. It has not been a holding pattern. Staff have worked hard to see the learning continue. We are very proud and grateful for the team we have at Huapai.
We really hope to see a shift back to “school as we knew it” after the term holiday break. We see the coming term as a really full on and impactful term. We are branding our coming term as “Uprising”. We want to see the creativity and impact of our children and programmes percolating beyond the classroom and into our community.
Thanks again for your support.
Regards,
John Petrie
Student Of The Week
Lauren (Year 8) says: "I love Huapai because of all the amazing opportunities that there are here for us to do with Performing Arts and sports. The teachers here are so supportive and really care for us. When you’re having a sad day everyone is kind and it’s a really lovely environment here at Huapai."
Getting To Know...
Khaylin Page
Hi, I’m Khaylin. I’ve been working here at Huapai Plus after school and holiday programme since January of last year. I really enjoy the company of the children. I am an actress and am currently performing in ‘The Maid’s Tragedy’. I live on a farm, and am enjoying the peace of lockdown life.
Cyber Safety
Part of our review processes, and in particular over these last few weeks online learning, we believe we can do even more in using our technologies to better manage and educate around cyber safety. After some investigation and planning we think there is an opportunity for the school and (later) our community to further improve the cyber safety, digital citizenship and school management of online digital behaviour. We’re pleased to announce that we will be working with and improving our cyber safety approaches and technologies in partnership with Linewize by Family Zone.
Linewize is New Zealand’s leading provider of cyber safety technology. The Linewize technology will allow our school to better maintain our duty of care during school hours by ensuring the students are safe online no matter what network they are connected too. Our school already partners with the Ministry of Educations network filtering and management programme (Network for Learning - N4L).
One of the key reasons we selected Linewize by Family Zone is so our parent community has the option of using the same online safety technology at home as we will use in school. We see this option opening to parents once we have established the processes within the school. We will communicate the details of this next term.
Announcement Monday 4th October
Currently, we have no more information than you do as parents. We are watching this space closely to then make decisions on whether we can offer our Huapai + holiday programme, as well as push on with planning for camps in term 4. We will follow up with further information following clarification from the Government next week.
2022 - Out Of Zone Enrolments
This ad will be appearing in the local media shortly. A requirement on the school is to advertise any out of zone enrolments. We are only accepting out of zone enrolments for siblings of children who are already attending our school and that now live out of our zone. This occurred when our zone changed in 2019 when Matua Ngaru School opened and we were required to shift our zone to the Main Rd. Families now living “out of zone” and who have younger children starting school in 2022 need to apply.
