Scott 6th Grade Center's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
Welcome Mrs. Fisher
Kelly Fisher comes to us from Twin Valley Middle School, where she taught for a little over 16 years. She has experience as both a learning support teacher and co-teacher and as a life skills teacher. Mrs. Fisher has a dual bachelor degree in Elementary and Special Education from West Chester University. She also has a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Immaculata University. Mrs. Fisher was a Coatesville grad and is proud to be a Red Raider again. She has three kids and three dogs. She likes to spend a lot of time outdoors and with her family. We are so happy to have her join our Scott Family!
What Has Been Happening on Our Fourth Floor?
The 2023 school year is off to a great start in Mr. Gibson's Language Arts classes. The first few weeks were used to greet and understand student needs. After this was in place, our positive learning environment was used to support all students with academic rigor. Once this foundation was set, the learning process has taken off. Students are developing writing skills, reading skills, and how to think as a critical thinker. Every child has an opportunity to share and express themselves in a creative way. This learning experience has just begun. I am pleased with how each class is working and learning in a positive way. Let's continue to rise and achieve success daily.
In Social Studies, Mrs. Waterman's classes are learning about early man, dating back 4 million years ago. They are seeing how man advanced physically and how tools were developed. Students took a virtual tour of Lascaux Caves in France to see the cave paintings from 17,000 years ago and created our own cave drawings.
In Science, Mrs. Waterman students started the year with an overview of the four branches of Earth Science. They are now learning about the structure of the Earth and basic map skills. The students had fun checking out Google Earth. Students will be using clay to make topographical maps on Monday.

Focus on Bus Behavior for the Month of October
There have been a lot of bus referrals coming in to Scott, and students have been reminded of the rules on the bus. They are to stay seated in their seats, be kind to the students around them, and be respectful to the bus driver.
For the month of October we will be rewarding students for good bus behavior. Any students that do not have a bus referral during the month of October will be able to participate in a school wide kickball tournament the first week of November. We are hoping that ALL our Scott students will be able to participate.
Please feel free to go over the expectations with your students. I have attached our policy below.
Would You Like to Volunteer at Scott?
We have started the year off well and are looking forward to a successful 2023-2024 school year. As you know, it takes a village! I would love to invite families that are able to volunteer time at Scott. That time can look like supporting in our library, reading with students, making copies, helping on our fun days, or even chaperoning a field trip.
If this is something you are interested in, please see the attached document outlining rules, expectations, and needed paperwork.
Code of Conduct
We have had a great start to the school year at Scott, and I know our students will continue to follow the expectations for the school year. We will continue to review and reinforce rules in classrooms, teams and as a whole school.
The School Board approved our 2023-2024 Code of Conduct. Please click on the link below to read the code of conduct. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Nurse's Corner
A few reminders for our families:
1. Please remind your student to bring a refillable water bottle to school. Our water fountains only have the water bottle feature available.
2. Some student's backpacks are way too heavy creating a health and safety concern. Please read the attached article on backpack basics for important information on how to help your student.
Gently Used Clothing Needed for Our Nurse's Office
We are looking for donations of gently used clothing for our nurse's office. Shirts, shorts, pants, sweatshirts, and socks would be greatly appreciated. Please send clean donations in a bag labeled for the nurse.
Thank you for your help!
