How Gompers Is Handling The Heat- Mitigating Measures

I have received several phone calls regarding the extreme heat in classrooms that do not have air-conditioning. I wanted to share some of the heat mitigating measures that have been put into place at Gompers.

  • I have incorporated rotating class schedules where teachers and staff work together to rotate students through cooler spaces (air-conditioned rooms) throughout the school day.
  • Teachers in non air-conditioned classrooms "visit" other air-conditioned rooms to partner read and participate in activities.
  • Support staff has been opening windows and doors in non-air-conditioned classrooms for better air circulation before 7 am.
  • Encouraging students and staff to remain hydrated (thank you for all of the water donations)
  • The district has provided schools with no A/C with extra fans.

Thank You!!!

I'd like to thank TK parent Stevan Moreno for the 350 water bottles ON ICE for our school on Friday. Our Gompers community really is the best. Thanks again for the very generous donation.

Thank You!!!

Thank You to PTA for setting up the ice-cream social. Wind gusts, heat, nor rain, stopped families from getting their delicious ice-cream!
This week students had a 22/23 Expectations Presentation. See how Gompers has gone

G R E E N!

Students were also reminded of the 22/23 Uniform Guidelines, which are linked here.

Not mentioned in the Uniform Guidelines is the requirement to wear closed toe shoes.

For safety reasons the following are not allowed:

Parent Reminders...

  • Please do not block neighbors driveways or double park to drop off your child.
  • Make sure to have your child walk across the street in the crosswalk, even if they are with you.
  • Starting Monday, September 19, TK/K students will return to their normal dismissal time of 3:00. Thursdays are teacher planning days and all students are dismissed at 2:30.
  • There are no parents allowed on campus unless you have checked in at the office. If you would like to speak to your child's teacher, please make an appointment with the teacher in advance as they are usually preparing for their day in the morning.
  • If you are delivering "supplies" such as waters or school supplies, just let the person at the gate know.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping to keep our students safe!
