The Buzz at Westbrook School
August 19, 2022
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
The Westbrook staff welcomed our first graders back to school this week. The school was filled with excitement and smiling faces as students met teachers and admired new classrooms. We look forward to welcoming our kindergarten students back to school next Monday, August 22nd, and early childhood next Thursday, August 25th. I am proud of our students for their enthusiasm and engagement. I am impressed by the hard work of our teachers and staff. Thank you, parents and guardians, for your support and help in preparing students for their first week of school.
Thank you to the families that participated in the kindergarten garden walks this week. We look forward to our early childhood garden walks on Tuesday, August 23rd. Garden walks allow our kindergarteners and early childhood students to meet their teachers and visit their classrooms before the first day of school. Westbrook was the “garden school” before it received the bee mascot. That is why our color is green, and many things are referred to as “the garden.”

Families will no longer be notified of each positive case within the building. The District will continue to update a dashboard to keep families informed. This information can be found on the District’s website under Families and Health Information. The dashboard reflects all positive cases of staff members and students who were present in a District 57 building during the period that they were infectious. The numbers do not account for those who have COVID and were not in the buildings when infectious.
Back to School Night will be held on Tuesday, August 30th at Westbrook. Please review the back-to-school night schedule linked above to identify the presentation time. This event is for parents only. Please note that there will not be a PTO meeting on back-to-school night.
Please ensure that you use the crosswalks in the parking lot to and from Westbrook.
Please do not walk between the buses. Staff members will be in front of the school each morning, reminding families to only cross at the crosswalk.
We kindly request you do not bring dogs or animals on school property. Many of our students are frightened of dogs.
Please contact the classroom teacher if you have a friend or family member picking up your child. Please communicate to the adult which door your child is dismissed from.
If you would like to use the Westbrook playground during the school day, please sign in at the office to receive a badge. This is an added safety measure for our teachers to identify approved visitors.
