What We've Been Doing and What's Ahead
Junior meetings are about half way complete and have been successful! During this time we review transcripts, discuss goals, and utilize Career Cruising. The juniors also took the PSAT and scores will be available in December. Once the scores are in I will meet with the class as a whole to go over the profile College Board sends and each student will identify his/her strengths and areas needed to improve upon for the Spring SAT.
Again, I will do variations of these meetings with sophomores and freshmen starting sometime in November with hopes of completing them before January. During college week the freshmen (2nd week of November) will receive a classroom guidance lesson on what the high school transcript is, how the GPA (grade point average) is calculated, and what happens when a student doesn't try his/her best.. We will also talk about what colleges are looking for in a well rounded student and when too many activities are counter-productive.
The 8th graders received two classroom guidance lessons on bullying. GIRLS lunch group began for the 7th and 8th grade girls, and the 6th grade girls will begin this week!
The 6th graders continue to work on defining goals and what happens to goals when we procrastinate. November's theme for Skills is "Being Kind and Accepting of Others."
All students will contribute to our "We Are Thankful" bulletin board by filling out a slip of paper with something he/she is thankful for. These reflections of thankfulness will replace our goals we filled out in September at locker day. We invite you to come view the bulletin board the next time you are at school.
All of the students have begun to participate in our Wacky Wednesday lunches. Two Wednesday's a month we randomly assign seats in lunch for students to get to know each other better. We have student leaders that have volunteered to lead the conversation with conversation starters we place on th table. This is a great opportunity for students to learn new things about each other!
We have four new International Students from Thailand that have been a wonderful addition to our Seton Catholic Family.
We recently had a very successful gathering of 71 students at Rulf's Orchard to participate in the flashlight corn maze as well as have a bonfire with cider and donuts. Mrs. Pellerin and Mrs. Gricoski worked with the International Student Association and Student Council to plan such a fun filled event!
Wednesday all students will participate in our 1st Annual Career Fair. In order to help make the event more interactive and give the students talking points with our vendors they will be completing a scavenger hunt and the class with the highest percentage of the most completed and accurate will win a prize!
