What do you teach:
Math 6/7/8 and Math 6/7 teacher on Team Limerick
How and why did you become a teacher?
I don't remember a time when I didn't want to be a teacher. I always loved going to school and thought it would be really fun to teach. When I started my Masters in Teaching program at Seattle University, I was planning to teach elementary school. After I graduated, I was a substitute teacher for two years. The first time I subbed in a middle school I was terrified, but I quickly realized that this was the age I really wanted to work with. They are charming and quirky, and they laugh at my jokes! I went back to school to get my math endorsement and started teaching math here at Cedar Park. I can't imagine doing anything else.
Cats or dogs or neither?
I definitely prefer dogs. I have a 9-year old boxer named Ellie. There is nothing like coming home to a dog. Even if I've only been gone for a few minutes, she gets so excited to see me. Her whole body wiggles and her tail wags like crazy. I generally don't like a cat, unless they act like a dog.
What is your favorite holiday?
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love Christmas music and sometimes find myself listening to it at random times throughout the year. I also love to make candies for my friends, family, and colleagues. My specialty is peanut butter balls. I usually make eight batches, which is about 1000 peanut butter balls. I start in early November and freeze them as I make them. This keeps them fresh and keeps my family from eating them too soon.

School Overcrowding Meeting
Another night on an important issue. This is from Stacey Wainwright a fellow parent from the district:
"As our children have traveled through schools in the north end of the Beaverton School District our family has become interested in school overcrowding and facility planning. In case it is also interesting to your school’s parents, I’m sharing information below about a meeting that two area Citizens Participation Organizations are holding about preventing school overcrowding. Information about the issue from an article in the Cedar Mill News…
————————————-
What are the Beaverton School District and Washington County doing to prevent school overcrowding?
Mon., Feb. 13, 7 pm, Terra Linda School cafeteria, 1998 NW 143rd Ave.
A joint meeting for residents of CPO 1 & 7 (from Cedar Hills to Bethany) will be held to address this important question. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Newly appointed BSD Administrator for Long Range Planning Steven Sparks will join Melissa DeLyser, Communications Coordinator, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation in a panel discussion that will be moderated by Mike Dahlstrom, Washington County Community Engagement Program Manager. Attendees will receive handouts with background information, which will also be distributed electronically to CPO members via email prior to the meeting. To sign up as a member of your CPO, visit the County Administration Office website.
The panel discussion will be followed by ample time for audience questions, beginning at 8:15.
Topics include:
- Critical vs. Essential Service: State law says that schools are essential, not critical. What effect does that have, and should that be changed? (see Section 501-7, Levels of Public Facilities and Services)
Looking forward:
These are complicated issues. CPO1 and CPO7 hope to offer an opportunity for the community to come together, learn about, and discuss these issues in a comfortable forum, as well as giving the responsible agencies a chance to hear the concerns of our neighbors. They are trying to bring the public to the table in the ongoing exploration of how to solve the problem that affects everyone in the area, whether you have school-age children or not.
