Hello Cottonwood Families!


This is to let you know that Trimster 2 report cards will be delivered electronically this Friday. As you might be aware, our district has been working hard to update our computer systems. One new feature available to elementary schools is electronic issuance of report cards. This capability has been utilized by our middle and high schools for years, so many of you might be familiar with the process.


By 4:00 PM on Friday you will receive and email containing a link to your student’s report card. The link will be good for seven days. It will expire after that time. The report cards are password protected; the password is your child’s 6-digit date of birth (MMDDYY).


We are excited about this new capability and hope that it is more convenient for you and environmentally friendly for all of us!

Cottonwood and the ​Continents

Be sure to tour the animals, architecture, and artists of the world throughout the halls of Cottonwood Creek Elementary February 28th to March 31st. If you are here for conferences next week, this is a great opportunity for you to check out the work of our Kindergarten through Fifth Grade Artists.

Class List Process and Input

We are working hard in our preparations for the 2022-23 school year. While we have many decisions to make around scheduling, staffing, and professional learning, generating class lists is one of the most important things we do to create the foundation for continued success in the upcoming school year.


The process of generating class lists is collaborative in nature and involves input from staff members from all aspects of our school. The integrity and professionalism of our staff is the foundation of our wonderful school. We feel that we know each of our students well. We know their learning styles, relationships with peers, academic strengths and challenges. Our intention is to create groups of children who reflect heterogeneity and cohesiveness. Student placement is based upon many considerations. Some of the influencing factors in this process include:


  • Balance of male and female students

  • A heterogeneous range of reading, writing, and math in each room

  • Consideration of emotional needs, giftedness, and other special needs

  • Separation of social conflicts

  • Balance of students with strong leadership qualities

  • Balance of students with good study habits


You may notice that I did not mention the older siblings’ teacher as a factor to consider. In the past, we have made attempts to match up younger siblings with the same teacher that their older brother or sister had. I understand the value of relationships and the consistency that this offers. However, this factor does not supersede the overall goal of creating groups of children who reflect heterogeneity and cohesiveness.


Due to the complexity of the class placement process, we are not able to honor specific requests for a classroom teacher. If you would like to add to our knowledge of your child’s social, emotional, or academic needs, you may do so in writing via email to the principal no later than Friday, March 11th. The needs you share will be treated as part of the process in making assignments for next year, and the information in these emails will be shared with the incoming principal. Requests for specific teachers will not be granted and should not be part of the information you share. Please respect the integrity of this process.

Update to CCSD Volunteer/Partner Process

We continue to welcome visitors and volunteers into our schools. If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the online volunteer form. It should only take a few minutes to complete. We want to thank you in advance and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.


New Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. Therefore, beginning January 2022, we must ensure that every volunteer completes a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools. This information will be automatically linked to the Raptor System. The good news is they only need to complete this form once per school year, and it will meet the requirement to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.

Definitions

  • Volunteers are guests who are supporting students, completing tasks, and under the immediate supervision and direction of District licensed personnel.

  • Visitors are guests who are solely entering the building to conduct business such as participate in a meeting, eat lunch with their student, or attend a school sponsored activity.


The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a District ID or a badge printed from the Raptor System.

Attendance Line and Student Absences

If your child is going to be absent from school, please call our attendance line (720-554-3295) prior to 7:45am. In the event that your child is unable to attend school, remote and/or online learning will not be provided. When your child is absent from school, make-up work may be provided and can be picked up at the end of the school day.
