October at Woodbrook

Dear Woodbrook Families,

We are in full swing here at Woodbrook! Clubs have begun, initial testing is behind us and the children are fully embracing all the wonderful opportunities Woodbrook has to offer!

Thanks to our PTO for the wonderful book fair! We so appreciate all of your help! We hope the children enjoyed shopping for books!

Our PBSIS kick off celebration was super fun! The children cheered for one another as Beaver Bucks were pulled from their bins. Remember that all Beaver Bucks can be saved and redeemed for prizes on line on our Positive Behavior Support in Schools Beaver Bucks website. See details below!

Thank you to all parents who have volunteered to become Class Parents or Head Class Parents! You are the reason we are able to have parties here at Woodbrook!

Of course, Halloween is one of our biggest celebrations here at Woodbrook! Children should come to school DRESSED in their COSTUMES. (Nothing bloody or too scary [no Scream masks] and no weapons as props). Weather permitting, we will hold our parade beginning at 1:30 on Monday, October 31. All parents may watch the children walk around the school. Park in a legal spot, car pool or WALK. Please refer to the diagram below to see where you should stand to watch your child. No standing on the sidewalk in front of the school. Class parties will take place immediately after the parade (2 p.m.). Only class parents who are running those class parties will be permitted into the building.

The talent show is coming!! Please go to the PTO website (code woodbrook) to sign your child up for an online audition. You will be contacted with a link to perform a 1-2 minute audition online on either Tuesday, Nov 15 from 2-3:30 pm or on Thursday, December 1 from 2-3:30. Our talent show for those selected will take place Friday, February 10, 2023 at 6:15 p.m. in the Woodbrook gym.

Please scroll down through the rest of the newsletter for details and even more information!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cirillo

Halloween at Woodbrook

Our annual Halloween Parade is scheduled for October 31 at 1:30 pm for all grades. Lunches will begin early in order to allow time for the parade & party.

Children should come to school in costume. As we are an elementary school, please ensure that all costumes are child friendly. Children may not wear very frightening costumes/masks or gory bloody makeup. Props which can be used as weapons are also not permitted. I am always proud to say that most of our children dress in positive, happy costumes as opposed to morbid, mature or frightening costumes. Please keep with this tradition. Masks may ONLY be worn during the parade OUTSIDE.

Parade Route:

Students will leave the school through the main doors beginning at 1:30 and walk around the flagpole circle, through the faculty parking lot, and then walk close to the tree line behind the school, walk down the path along the gym/playground, and re-enter through the entrance by the playground.

Students will NOT reenter the school through the same door they exited.

I have attached a picture of the route below and I have also included where parents should stand in order to spread out.

All children will walk the entire route, so no matter where you stand, you will definitely see all of the children.

We may only walk around one time as opposed to twice depending on the timing. We will begin with the 5th grade, then 4th grade, then 3rd, 2nd, 1st and end the parade with kindergarten. Give yourselves enough space to enjoy seeing all of the children.

SEE PICTURE OF PARADE ROUTES BELOW.

Parents assigned to help with classroom parties that have supplies (no food) to deliver must report to the foyer first to sign in. You may park in the stop and drop lot, but please do not arrive before 1:15 PM. Students of parent volunteers may be released at 3:15PM. Lunch will be served early on this day in order to allow enough time for the parade and the party. Parents who can walk to the parade should walk and those who can carpool with neighbors should carpool.

Fire Laws: NO parents are permitted to park in the back lot, directly in front of the school or by fire hydrants. These areas are fire zones.

DO NOT DOUBLE PARK OR BLOCK ANYONE’S DRIVEWAY

If your child will not be partaking in Halloween festivities, please inform your child’s teacher so we can arrange for your child to enjoy an alternate activity here at school.

Naturally, the parade is dependent upon the weather. If it is raining, the parade will be canceled and classroom parents may begin the party at 1:30pm (class parents may set up at 1:15 p.m.). Thank you for your cooperation. With your help, we’ll make this a safe, happy, fun time for the children.

WOODBROOK HANDBOOK 2022-2023

Send Umbrellas & Wear Boots when Rain is Expected

On rainy days students are still expected to walk down the sidewalk into the building. Please do not try to change the procedure and drop children off closest to the building because it is raining. Instead, pull up in the stop & drop lot and ensure your child is wearing rain boots and using a child size umbrella.

What to Do When Your Child is Absent

Please always ensure that you follow the TWO STEP procedure when your child is absent.

1. Call the school to report your child's absence.

2. Send a note with the REASON/doctor's note for your child's absence when your child RETURNS.

No Idling & No U Turns

Please be reminded that there is no idling when you are parked in the stop & drop lot to pick up students at 3:30 p.m. The neighbors have been complaining and have called the police to enforce the law.

In addition, be sure you are not making a U-turn by the stop & drop lot or by the flagpole. It is dangerous and it is not permitted.
