BHS All-State Orchestra Selections

Congratulations to Tom Timms and Sarah Fabrizio for being named to the 2014 SC All State Orchestra!

They perform with the orchestra at Furman University at the end of February.

BHS Senior William Hinson - Long-Drive SMASHER!

William Hinson was recently featured in The State newspaper as a member of the Calloway XHOT Long Drive Team. Good luck to William as he prepares to compete later this month in the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.

Congratulations to the following athletes who were recognized last week by The State newspaper as All-Area Team members

BHS Athletic Director Inducted into Liberty High Hall of Fame

On January 10, Coach Vince Lowry was inducted into his high school's Athletic Hall of Fame in Bedford, Virginia. Coach Lowry was a 4-sport athlete at Liberty High where he was All-Region in football, basketball, and track. He also played baseball. Congratulations Coach Lowry!

BHS Food Service Employee given National Award for her quick action

Susan Newton, cafeteria worker at Blythewood High School, was named the National Sodexo Experience Winner for her brave and heroic efforts protecting the students of Blythewood High School. She confronted an intruder back in the fall who was evading police and helped detain him without any incident at school. Her quick action and bravery was amazing! Mrs. Newton's story was featured on WLTX,


2 BHS Teachers earn National Board certification

Congratulations to two of Blythewood High's finest! Jennifer Cribbs (left) and Lisa McAlpine were recognized at this week's School Board meeting for earning their National Board certification. This was a renewal for Mrs. Cribbs and an initial certification for Ms. McAlpine.

Junior Lunch Privilege for 2nd semester

Juniors who meet the following criteria are eligible to leave campus for lunch second semester:

- All grades 77% or higher for semester 1

- No suspensions for semester 1

- No attendance issues for semester 1

- All school fees have been paid in full

Juniors interested in this privilege must pick up the application in the main office and have it signed by their parents. A special ID will be awarded to the approved students. Juniors may NOT leave campus during lunch until this process has been completed and their new ID has been received.

BHS to host its first-ever DANCE marathon

On Friday, February 21st, we will have our first Dance Marathon at BHS! USC has one of the largest Dance Marathons in the country and they have asked us to work with them to raise money for Palmetto Health Children's Hospital by having a Dance Marathon of our own at Blythewood.

This will be an awesome event and our students are very excited about organizing this for the first time. Stay tuned for more details.

BHS Military Family Night

Blythewood High School Guidance Department will host its first annual Military Family Night 2014 honoring BHS military families on Monday, January 27th at 6:00 PM in the Blythewood High School Cafeteria. Come join us for some food and fun. Dinner will be served. If you would like to attend, please contact Sharlene Drakeford at sdrakeford@richland2.org. by January 24th.

Community Internship Program Showcase

Community Internship Program students showcased their career internships as well as community service and projects along with their mentors at an exhibition. As always, Blythewood High thanks the community for their partnerships with our students.

Miss Blythewood

The Miss Blythewood Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, January 25 at 7:00 in the BHS Auditorium.

Band Concert

The BHS Chamber Band Concert has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 28 at 6:30 in the auditorium.

Free SAT Workshop

SAT workshop- Thursday January 23 from 4-6pm in room 101. This free workshop will cover the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the SAT. Space is limited, so students should sign up with Ms. Waugh as soon as possible or email her at ewaugh@richland2.org

Financial Aid Information Night for Future College Students and Families

FAFSA Assistance Night- Thursday, January 23 from 5-7pm in the library. Seniors and their parents are invited to get help with filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). There will be a brief presentation followed by hands-on assistance. Parents are encouraged to bring a laptop, or email Emma Waugh at ewaugh@richland2.org to reserve a library computer.

Winter Sports Pep Rally

Our Winter Sports Pep Rally is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, January 24. We will follow our afternoon assembly schedule that day.

Report Cards

2nd 9 week report cards will be issued on January 22. Those students that earned Honor Roll for 2nd 9 weeks (All A's and B's) will be treated at the Honor Roll cookout during lunch on January 24.

Student Holiday

There will be no school on January 20 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Sparkleberry Fair Scholarship Opportunities

Child Development Applications

Richland Two’s Title I Child Development Program will be accepting applications

Monday, January 13, through Friday, April 11, 2014

• This is a needs-based program designed to ensure that the most

at-risk children enter kindergarten with the skills necessary to

succeed academically.

• The full-day program is free to qualifying families

• Children applying for the program must be four years old by

September 1, 2014.

• Applications will be taken at the Clemson Road Child Development

Center (CRCDC) at 2621A Clemson Road, Monday - Friday, from

8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
