A Letter From The Principal
Dear Field Families,
I hope your 2018 is off to a great start. Our building has certainly felt the excitement and energy of the new year and we are looking forward to continuing this in February. We've also seen the swing in temperatures that can happen throughout the winter. Please make sure you are following all traffic rules when dropping off or picking up your students. Of particular attention, please note that parking in the staff lot is not allowed for dismissal and we also need parents to pull forward in the Kiss and Go sections of Wisner and Elmore. Please make sure you pull all the way forward before dropping off or picking up your student.
We are also starting to move toward our spring assessment window. All of our 2nd grade students will take CogAT between February 20th and February 23rd. This assessment gauges potential and is not a test for which students can study. The best way to prepare your 2nd grade student for the test is to make sure they get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. PARCC testing will follow in March for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. There will be more information about both of these assessments in coming weeks.
Of course, it's also a good time to remind everyone about our rules with snow. Please make sure you remind your student with the same information we give them. Snow or ice is not to be thrown at any time at school. Students have heard this reminder multiple times and we can use your help in reinforcing the message at home. We also want to make sure all students are dressed for the weather. Snow pants and boots are required to play in the snow. It's also a good idea to have gloves, a hat, or a scarf. If the temperature, including wind chill, is below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, we will let students into the building at 8:30 and will limit their time at recess. If the temperature, including wind chill, goes below zero, students will not go outside for recess at all and will still be let into the building at 8:30. We cannot let students into the building before 8:30 as that is when staff begin working.
Of course, we are also looking forward to our Valentine's Day Parties being hosted by our PTO on February 14th. There will not be any edible items passed out at these parties, but students will be playing games and doing a craft activity.
