Across the district in the Postsecondary & Workforce Readiness Department in the next few months, exciting things are happening! Don't miss out on these great opportunities! In addition to the district-sponsored events below, look for events from your PWR Partners happening at your specific schools! How to Afford College Event

Have a student who wants to go to college or technical school and not sure they can afford it! Send them to this event to learn about the creative ways to fund postsecondary education and the tricks & tools that will put them in a better position when they graduate. Middle and high school students and their families are invited to attend this event which will include a presentation and resource fair.

This event will occur Tues, January 26, from 5:30-7:30pm, at the PLCC and is sponsored by America's Promise.

FEBRUARY

City of Aurora Internships

10-week internships will be offered in various departments with the City of Aurora. This is a great opportunity for high school students to gain practical work experience and learn about various career options. Look for applications to be available in the coming weeks. The internships will run March 1-May 15; students will need to work 5-hours/week during the internship.

MARCH

Spring Break Academies

What are your high school students doing Spring Break? We are partnering with the City of Aurora to offer Spring Break Academies with three different tracks:
  • Public Safety Academy - Learn about careers in the police, fire, emergency management or dispatch.
  • Public Service Academy - Numbers run the world, students will exercise their critical thinking skills as they work together to solve a real-world problem posed by the City.
  • Citizen Academy - If you have a student who is new to the country, this is a great opportunity to learn about the variety of services offered by the City to support their transition to America.
Students will have opportunities to earn Digital Badges at all of these Academies.
