Keeping Up with Colden
Happy Holidays to Families - December 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Colden Elementary School Families,
I hope this message finds you well and rested, after Thanksgiving Recess. I hope that you were able to enjoy time with family and friends while getting a bit of a break from a busy fall.
As I have said to you many times over the years, we give thanks for the opportunity to work with your children, and be a part of your family. We are very fortunate to be a part of an incredibly warm, supportive, and committed school community. We believe that we are unique in many ways, not only in the way that the community supports the education of their children, but also with how much everyone demonstrates care for each other. I am wishing you and your family the very best this holiday season!
A reminder that there is no school for students on Monday, December 4th for parent- teacher conferences. Parents will receive their child's report card, if a conference is scheduled for that day. If not, report cards will go home on Tuesday, December 5th. On Friday, December 8th, there is 1/2 day for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Dismissal for parent pick up will begin at 11:00 AM.
Please check out our CES Recess Plan that our committee has worked on these past few weeks. I appreciate the interest and input shared from parents, teachers, and staff. During the winter months, we try to get our students outside for PE and recess as much as possible. We are looking for the following winter clothes donations:
Gloves/mittens XS-XL
Jackets XS (4/5t) - XL (14/16)
Snow Pants XS (4/5t) - XL (14/16)
Winter Boots Size 13 - 6

Good Character is Poppin' at Colden Elementary! πΏ
It may sound cornyβ¦.but showing respect is HOT at Colden Elementary! Students who best demonstrated being respectful were treated to a very special popcorn party, to thank them for their hard work and conscientiousness. These students know thereβs a kernel of truth to the saying: βTo get respect, you have to give it.β
Congratulations to our awesome, RESPECTFUL students!

Partnering with PTA
On Thursday, November 9, the Colden PTA partnered with our Student Council members to honor the veterans in our community. Veterans enjoyed breakfast with their students in the library, before walking through halls lined by students and staff, waving American flags. It was truly a privilege to help make this gathering possible.
Looking ahead, PTA will sponsor our first STEAM Night on Wednesday, December 20th, STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. At the event, there will be a wide variety of hands-on activities for all our students (UPK through 5th grade) and their adults, including the Planet and Star Lab from Buffalo Museum of Science, Digging for Dinos, Community Creativity Mural, and a Three Little Pigs house-building challenge. Please note that due to the hands-on nature of this event, all children must be accompanied by an adult. Activities are for ages 4 and up, only. Watch for more information to come home with your student soon!
Also in December, PTA will hold our annual Merry Moose shopping event. This is a holiday tradition that gives students a chance to develop their money management skills while buying gifts for their families. Money envelopes and a shopping form will be sent home prior to the event.
Finally, please join the PTA for the December monthly meeting, to be held on Wednesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The meeting ID is 238 445 7202, and passcode is CES.

Veterans Day Breakfast & Parade
Student Council Corner
By Henry Gorecki (CES 5th Grader, Student Council Secretary)
In November, the Colden Elementary School Student Council held a Veteranβs Day breakfast. We invited the people who had family members that were Veterans or active military. We served breakfast pizza, danishes and an option of orange juice, water or coffee. The student council stayed after school to help plan and decorate for this event. There were also student council members who spoke at the breakfast.
In December we are hosting a cereal drive for Bread of Life. Please bring in an unopened box of cereal by December 21st if you would like to donate.
