Senior Shout-Outs
5 questions and a shout Out with Mrs. Jessica Thailing and LVHS Senior, CeCe Parker.
“Making connections with my students and seeing smiles on their faces.”
2. Recall a time when your students made you proud to be their teacher
“There are a lot of times. One in particular was my first year as a teacher and DECA
advisor when I took only seven students to competition. I was honored that one of my most challenging students decided he would join and received a $1,000 college scholarship.
Also, two students went on to nationals our first year!”
3. Do you feel as if you have made a lasting impact on the students you have taught? If
so, in what way?
“Yes!. Many of my past students who are now either in college or pursuing their careers reach out to me. They like to let me know what they are pursuing or thank me for what I have taught them.”
4. What are you hoping to achieve with the students in DECA this year?
“I hope my DECA students just enjoy themselves, relax while they are presenting
in front of judges, have fun networking with other schools and companies, and most
importantly, attract more members!”
5. What have the students here at LVHS taught you?
“They have taught me how important relationships are in a small community, and if
you show these students how much you care and respect them, you will have their trust
for the rest of the time here!”
Shout Out from Cece to Mrs. Thailing:
Mrs. Thailing has inspired me to do more than than I thought possible. She pushed me
beyond my comfort zone to participate in extracurricular activities that I would not
have previously taken part in. She has been an encouragement for me to strive for
outstanding grades and because of her, my outlook for my future holds endless
possibilities.
5 questions and a shout Out with Coach Brad Kassell and LVHS Senior, Russell Sweet:
1. What made you want to become a coach?
"I became a coach because I wanted to positively influence people's lives. I found the best way to do that would be coaching high school. I consider myself a coach of kids, not just of athletes. Many coaches throughout my life had a positive influence on me, and if I can make a positive influence on one person, I'll be good."
2. Did the NFL help you in anyway coaching-wise. If so, how?
"I would say it helped me in giving validation to what I am saying/coaching. While playing at a high level has no bearing on how well you can coach, kids are more accepting of your coaching because of your experience."
3. What has been your favorite moment as a coach?
"It is difficult for me to say. I have so many experiences that are rewarding throughout the school day. I feel that developing the relationships with my students outweighs any one moment on the playing field."
4. What is your favorite sport to coach and why?
"Football. It is the ultimate team game. A team full of selfless players working together has the ability to be the more talented team of individuals. Besides that, it teaches both mental and physical toughness. Anyone who has played the game of football has experienced the moment when they need to decide whether or not it's worth it."
5. Besides football, what is your favorite sport to watch or play?
"My favorite sport to play other than football, is basketball. I like the fast pace and physicality of the sport."
Shout out from Russell to Coach Kassell:
Coach Kassell has been my coach for over three years now. During that time, he has inspired me to be the best I can be and to push myself farther than I ever though I could. Not only has he taught me to be a better athlete, he taught me to be a better man and person.
Early Release on Friday, January 27!
GT News:
- GT will be taking a field trip Friday, January 20 to the Hill Country Science Mill in Johnson City! If you have a GT student that did not receive a permission form, please contact Mr. Pruitt ASAP!
- GT meetings are every Thursday during advisory in Mr. Pruitt's room!
- We are currently accepting referrals for testing into the G/T program. G/T testing identifies students "who perform at or show the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment" and allows G/T students to participate in various trips, activities, and independent research projects. Parents, teachers, and fellow students can refer a student for G/T. If you're interested in having your student referred for testing, please complete this form and have them return it, or have your student talk to Mr. Pruitt in A121 for a paper form!
PSAT Results are In!
Parents are invited to attend.

attendance rate!
Student attendance from 12/16/2016 - 1/13/2017 was 94.3%
Remember, 10:15 is the magic time for this attendance rate!
AP's Corner.
2. Parents! If you show up to a Vikings game, support the team! The ref doesn't care what you have to say until you make him mad enough to kick you out, or take it out on the team. The stands sound like a middle school cafeteria. Set a good example.
3. There will be a lot of flooding this weekend, drive safe.
4. The school building opens each day at 7:45 am unless there are freezing temps. Plan accordingly.
5. Refer to #1LVHS Random Drug testing - Not just for students in uil!
Read the entire policy here: http://www.lagovistaisd.net/default.aspx?name=Publications
Add your student to the random pool by contacting Mr. Walker at justin_walker@lagovista.txed.net.
important attendance information!
3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period - warning letter sent home.
7 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period - warning letter sent home and Behavior Intervention Plan meeting called with the parents, student, and assistant principal.
10 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period - truancy charges are filed. Parent, student and school administrator will be summoned to appear in truancy court.
Our campus goal is to reach 96% attendance each day. If a student is at school at 10:15 am, we receive funding for that student for that day. If they are not, we do not receive funding. For this reason, we ask that you plan all non-medical absences from school for times after 10:15 am.
Weird, but true, attendance fact: If your student is present for any part of the school day and leaves for a medical appointment, they won't get counted absent for that day as long as they bring a note. If they are absent for the entire day for a doctor's appointment, they will be counted absent.
Thanks for your support!
