ELA
Whew! We made it through NWEA testing, and the students did great! We continued exploring main idea with the shared reading “Homelessness.” Also, we have incorporated some fun games in class based on main idea such as Kahoot! and Quizlet Live! Our students have also been working hard revamping their realistic fiction essays this past week. There’s only two more weeks until winter break!

RI1B (Vocabulary): Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative, connotative, and content-specific meanings using context, affixes, or reference materials. [Specifically focusing on context clues]
Writing: Use a given process to create clear expository writing that is developed, and organized for the task; including style, voice, purpose, and audience.
Math
This week in math we will be continuing Unit 4: Percentages. Please see the Family Materials for Unit 4 to review important vocabulary and see sample problems that you can do with your student at home. We will be taking our Unit 4 post test on Thursday 12/19/19. Unit 1, 2, and 3 scores are updated in the grade book. Please click "Resources" to see proficiency scales, sample work, resources to help support your student, and practice work.

Week at a Glance:
Next week, we will finish up unit 4 with the nitrogen cycle. If time permits, we will test either at the end of the week or early the next week!
I can interpret how carbon flows through the geological and biological carbon cycles.
I can diagram the nitrogen cycle, including all the processes involved in changing N2 into usable nitrogen.

Students are working on objective 3: Colonial America.
Students can compare/contrast the geography of the 3 regions of Colonial America.
Students should be able to locate all 3 regions of Colonial America: New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies. Students will be tested over this objective later this week or next.
Learning Target for the Week:
Students will compare the people who settled in all three regions and their reasons for coming to America.
