Boxer Bulletin

Eastwood Academy HS Newsletter - January 2022

Happy New Year, Families!

We hope you all had a very restful winter break with your families and loved ones. The Houston area has seen a marked increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the city and surrounding communities. Eastwood has been no exception. Thank you to each of our families that reached out over the break to notify us of any positive cases or exposure cases involving symptomatic students. We hope this month's bulletin will provide you all with the information you need to stay up to date with the latest protocols.

This bulletin addresses the following topics:

  • COVID-19 Updates
  • December Students of the Month
  • Class of 2023 Parent Meeting
  • Title I Parent & Family Engagement Meeting
  • Upcoming Events Reminders

COVID-19 Updates

In light of the updates pushed out by the CDC, we anticipate HISD will update their COVID protocols within the coming week. When that happens, we will distribute the updates to you all as well via Remind, Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, Twitter, and our school website. We will also include them in our February Boxer Bulletin.

***If your child tests positive for COVID OR is exposed to a positive case, please contact our school nurse, Ms. Campos by email or by calling the school. Nurse Campos will give you the specific details regarding recommended testing dates and the required quarantine timelines.

Nurse Campos's Email:

As of 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022, the PDF attached below is the latest COVID-19 Toolkit available for parents on the HISD Health and Wellness website.

Please note the following: fully vaccinated students/staff who are exposed to a positive case and do not have active symptoms of COVID-19 do not need to quarantine. These individuals are still recommended to test after 3-5 days from the last date of exposure.

Beginning January 7 select HISD campuses will conduct on-site COVID PCR testing. Although Eastwood Academy HS is not slated to be one of these testing sites in the initial phase-in, all campuses will eventually provide the testing. Fulgent is the company that will be conducting the tests.

One question we have received pretty frequently over the break is: Can my child get tested at another campus starting January 3 since Eastwood isn't a testing site yet? Unfortunately the answer is no; however, parents of HISD students can take their child to one of the many testing sites around the city. Visit this site for more information:

We highly recommend all of our parents/guardians register their Eastwood students immediately. This will ensure we are ready to roll once the testing site opens here at Eastwood. Parents/guardians must complete the one-time consent form using the linked button below before any COVID tests can be administered.

December Students of the Month

Every month our teacher grade level groups meet to decide on one student within their grade level that has exhibited the Eastwood Core Values:

  • Practice perseverance
  • Exhibit integrity
  • Take care of yourself and others

Please note that none of the Core Values speak to our academic expectations with regard to grades earned in classes. We strongly believe that our students should also be recognized for their soft skills and positive character traits. Students who are named each month are eligible for the Student of the Year award in their grade level. Student of the Year is selected by the administrators on campus.

Congratulations to our December Students of the Month below!
