History of the Protests

The Yemen protests started in late Jan 2011. The people started these protests to have president Saleh moved out of office. Security forces often cracked down on protests against the president. Snipers started shooting at protesters and the president declared a stat of emergency. President ended up staying in office.

Today

Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi is now the president of Yemen. Since taking power, President Hadi has struggled to tackle widespread poverty. There was an election in Feb of 2014. Yemen is still struggling with poverty,

The International Community

The UN report in Sept noted authorities have seemed to have lost effective control of parts of the country. The U.S. has a significant aid program directed at Yemen. We would call it a revolution, because there was a change in the countries government.
