So much to be proud of!
The long awaited opening of a boarding facility in Palu was unveiled the following day. It was a great celebration
In the middle of the year committee members Brett South and Russell Cott attended our third sponsored soccer competition in Lawua, what a wonderful event. Organized sport is not a priority for these rural communitites and in supporting this competition, the QHHC allow the students of surrounding schools benefit not only from an exposure to competition but also learning about training and nutrition, good sportsmanship and the chance to meet kids from other villages.
Many members of the QHHC have visited the area over the last few years and have enjoyed our friendships with the people from the Salvation Army (past and present) and our contact with remote rural communitites - these trips have really been special and we are so proud to have been a part of educational improvement in this area.

QHHC Annual Cocktail Party
Oh what a night!
Many people were integral in making sure the party was a great success - notably Leanne Wood who co-organized the event as well as all members of the committee and friends who assisted us by providing food and prizes.
The night totaled $25,000 and after party expenses, the money was allocated to assist with our projects in Central Java and Sulawesi, including the soccer tournaments and the new school build in Petahunan.
We'll do it all again this year - so keep your diary clear in September. More details very soon!
Central Java - Mima Petahunan
A new connection with a wonderful community
A follow up visit in January this year saw a team of 10 QHHC supporters travel from Sydney and Jakarta to attend the finals of the comp and inspect the building. We have since pledged to assist this community school to add a second storey to the building to house a library and more classrooms.
Ibu Nina from Jakarta has spent time in the school this year assessing their English programme and we are hoping to assist the schools in the area to improve their English learning through multi media resources and teaching. First steps towards this was to pass on money to help the school connect to the internet. At a community meeting following the soccer comp, we presented an educational scholarship to a Year 8 students who's father has died and mother has had to go to Jakarta to work - we are so happy to provide the money to allow her to continue her secondary studies.
We look forward to being able to assist this community of schools further over the coming year and already have a proposal from a neighboring school to build more classrooms.
We wish to congratulate the teachers on their care in presenting proposals, updates and receipting helping us to keep involved and informed.
The soccer finals were carried out with great organizational skills by the Principal Pak Ikwan and his staff - we congratulate them on a fabulous week of games. We hope this will be a yearly event on their school calendar.
Thank you to Rod Holzwart and his son Ben for bringing a drone with them. We took some beautiful aerial footage of the game and the surrounds and Ben will be putting together an official video for us over the next few weeks.

How can I get involved?
- We are always looking for prizes for our events - if you have a product or service you can offer up, particularly for our cocktail party please be in touch.
- We have several blind children from Yayasan Elsafan that were in need of an educational sponsor. Danielle Elvy runs this programme and can be contacted through our Facebook site.
- Come along to our events and enjoy both the company of friends and spend up on our raffles and silent auction. It's always fun to get together and raise money.
- If you'd like to join us on our trip to Central Java in January 2018 - let one of the committee members know and we can keep you in the loop when we begin our organization of this trip. It's honestly an experience you wont forget!
