Library Books are Due
Hello Parents! I need your help in getting Surfside’s library books returned to school!!
Due to COVID restrictions last year when a student borrowed a book from the media center, after they returned the book, it had to be in quarantine for 72 hours before I could process it. Due to those restrictions, I wasn’t very strict with my check out policies. It was more important to me that they were reading rather than being strict on policy.
I also started this school year less strict than a “normal” year. However, the students are NOT returning their books in larger numbers than ever before! As you know there is a responsibility that comes with checking out library books. Surfside’s policy is that a student can borrow a book for two weeks, and can re-new that checkout if necessary for two more weeks. Each grade level has a certain amount of books they are allowed to check out as well:
K – 1 book
1st grade – 2 books
2nd grade – 2 books
3rd grade – 3 books
4th grade – 3 books and a magazine or 4 books (last year due to COVID we were not allowed to check out magazines so last year and this year they are allowed to check out an additional book)
5th and 6th grade – 5 books
A Surfside Book is tagged with a bar code on the bottom front cover with the name Surfside Elementary printed on the bar code tag. If you see these around your home, please ask your child if they need to be returned to Surfside. If you have a moment please help me reinforce the responsibilities of using the library by having a quick conversation about returning books on time! I really appreciate your help!!

Arrival Reminders
The first bell rings at 8:00. At that time, classroom doors open. It is imperative that students be in class and ready to learn by 8:15. Students who are not in the classroom by 8:15 are considered tardy.
Our car loop is very busy in the mornings with students arriving to school. To make the car loop more efficient, we are asking that students are dropped off at the next gate available and not just by their grade level hallways. This will allow cars to pull up to the next gate instead of having gaps in car line. The tardy bell rings at 8:15 and students are expected to be in their classrooms when the bell rings. Please help your student by making sure that they arrive on campus with time to get to class or to acquire breakfast if needed. We appreciate your help.
