Classified Employee Appreciation Week March 5-9, 2018
The District is fortunate to have more than 1,930 classified employees working to help create an outstanding learning environment for all students. They are our bus drivers, custodians, instructional assistants, nutrition services personnel, maintenance personnel, secretaries, and other support staff who, without their support, effective instruction and learning would be impossible.
“Each and every day our classified staff give their all to support the success of our students. We appreciate the diverse talents, vital role, and true dedication from our classified staff whom support our schools, departments, teachers, and students. We cannot function without them,” states Ronda Haun Administrator for Classified Personnel.
On a daily basis, one can witness our support staff performing a multitude of duties with dedication and commitment. Thank you, classified staff, for all you do for the Beaverton School District everyday!
School Social Work Week - March 4-10, 2018
"Beaverton School District Social Workers wear many hats in their efforts to support students and families in our community. The District's social workers do an amazing job juggling multiple schools and responsibilities, including evening home visits with working parents, planning and delivering quality mental health professional development, and responding to crises throughout the District. In addition, several schools have social workers on staff who provide counseling, consultation and other intervention services," says Todd Nicholson, Administrator for Special Programs. "All of our social workers are truly an asset to students and families throughout the District and I am so thankful for their dedication and hard work."
Please take a moment to thank your school social worker.

District to allow partial public access to Sato ES & Mountainside HS
The Beaverton School District will allow partial public access to two of the Beaverton School District’s newest schools, Sato Elementary School and Mountainside High School.
At Sato Elementary School, the public will have full access to internal spaces, but no access to outdoor spaces.
At Mountainside High School, the public will have partial access to the following spaces: community room, commons area, gymnasium (including both gyms and indoor track), locker rooms, and the athletic stadium (including field, track, bleachers, and press box). Spaces excluded from public access include, but are not limited to, the auditorium, library, classrooms, work spaces, weight room, dance rooms, and the north and south athletic fields.
District policy and practice has dictated that new school buildings are not open to broad public use for one school year. This one-year moratorium is used to allow District staff to learn the operational functions and controls of the building and grounds, vest warranties of equipment and other improvements, repair and replace equipment, and continue with commissioning activities taking place within the buildings.
The District has agreed to partially remove the moratorium on Sato Elementary School and Mountainside High School and allow access for public use of these facilities beginning March 1, 2018. Please visit the District’s Facility Use webpage for information on reserving space at Sato or Mountainside.
SafeOregon Tipline
Creating a safe learning environment is a critical part of helping each child achieve academic success. SafeOregon is a statewide school safety tip line that gives kids, parents, schools and their communities a way to report safety threats or potential acts of violence. SafeOregon will give students another path for communicating with school administration when school safety incidents occur.
How does SafeOregon work?
Students, parents, and school staff can access SafeOregon through the web form on the SafeOregon website , or by text, email, live call and mobile app.
Why is there a need for a tip line system?
The number one reason why students do not report is the fear of retaliation from their peers. SafeOregon can be accessed from the privacy of a phone, home computer or other Internet equipped device, eliminating the possibility of being identified by another student and thus, decreasing the likelihood that a school safety threat would go unreported.
For more information, please visit the District's SafeOregon Tipline webpage.

2017-2018 Beaverton's Choice Grants
Beaverton's Choice is a site like Donors Choose that helps individuals and businesses match up their time, resources or a tax donation with specific classroom projects in our Beaverton public schools.
Teachers list their needs online; donors choose which ones are of interest. It’s as simple as that! Now Beaverton Education Foundation can help make your fabulous classroom project go viral through Beaverton’s Choice!
Creating a classroom project, or campaign, using Beaverton’s Choice is a simple online process. Go to the Beaverton’s Choice application site. You will need to enter five pieces of information, click submit, and BEF will do the rest to get your project online and the fundraising started!
You will need the following to submit a project:
- Title | A good title can make your request stand out. Identify your classroom problem or opportunity, and use a personal tone.
- Intro | This will be the introduction to your project and the default message shared on social media.
- Goal | Enter the goal for the project – the amount of money you are trying to raise
- Picture | Use a horizontal photo that helps donors connect emotionally with the project maximum benefit.
- Story | This is where you can go into more detail on your classroom or school project. Include your school name and grade level(s) served. At the end of the story include the budget details for the project.
That is all you need to submit a project. If you have questions, refer to details of creating a project for step by step instructions.
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and will be posted to Beaverton’s Choice for funding by the public. You will be notified via email when to begin promoting and sharing your project. The BEF Grant Review committee reviews your project and considers your active sharing in their funding decision.
