Message from Principal Velez | Mensage del Director Velez

It has been a true pleasure and honor to begin my new assignment as part of the Vikan community. These past few weeks have been nothing but extraordinary. I want to assure you that next year will be a year full of new challenges and new learning for all our Knights.


My promise to you is that we will do everything in our power to ensure that your child learns in an environment in which he is respected, acknowledged, understood and challenged. We are committed to ensuring that every child, in every classroom, every day has the opportunity to grow and learn in a supportive, respectful and caring environment. We are preparing for that. We will be working hard this summer to ensure we are ready to embark on this amazing new adventure that starts in August.


Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this community. As our motto here at Vikan goes, "We will ARMOR up to win the day!"


Have a fantastic summer Knights. Make sure you rest and enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather. Stay strong! Together, we will win the day!

Ha sido un verdadero placer y un honor empezar esta nueva asignación como parte de la comunidad Vikan. Estas últimas semanas han sido extraordinarias. Quiero asegurarles de que el año que viene será un año lleno de nuevos retos y nuevos aprendizajes para nuestros Caballeros y Damas.


Mi promesa a ustedes es que haremos todo lo que esté en nuestro poder para que su estudiante aprenda en un ambiente en el cual es respetado (a), conocido (a), comprendido (a) y animado (a). Nuestro compromiso será asegurar que cada estudiante, en cada clase, cada día tenga la oportunidad de crecer y aprender un un ambiente de apoyo, respeto y cariño. Nos estamos preparando para eso. Estaremos trabajando duro este verano para asegurarnos de que estemos listos para empezar esta nueva aventura la cual empieza en agosto.


Gracias por la oportunidad de ser parte de esta comunidad. Como dice nuestro refrán aquí en Vikan, “¡Nos armaremos para ganar el día!”


Espero que tengan un verano maravilloso. Asegúrense de descansar y disfrutar el hermoso clima de Colorado. ¡Sigan fuerte que juntos, ganaremos el día!

Vikan Summer Camp REGISTRATION | (MATRÍCULA Campamento de Verano de Vikan)

We are very excited to bring Vikan’s Summer Camp - Shark Tank Style to our school. Our summer camp is a highly involved program in which our Knights engage in project-based learning to develop a business proposal that they will then present to business leaders in the community. Teachers facilitate learning and support our Knights in learning the skills necessary to be successful entrepreneurs. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to help your child accelerate during the summer.


When: June 1st - June 18th

What Days?: Tuesdays - Thursdays

At What Time?: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Where?: At Vikan Middle School

Who: Students who have struggled engaging during the 2020-2021 academic year

4th Quarter Vikan KNIGHTS

Congratulations to the newly elected 4th quarter Vikan KNIGHTS (not all students are pictured)! These students were nominated by their teachers for their exemplary character, behavior, ethics, good attendance and effort in school!

We also would like to congratulate Mr. Carroll who was nominated by the Vikan staff to represent our community during the Knighting ceremony on May 18th.

Did you know...


27J Schools began awarding the Graduation Seal of Biliteracy to students who demonstrated fluency in both English and another world language in 2019. Students can begin working towards this accreditation as early as Middle School! Check out this flyer for additional information.

2021-2022 Vikan Athletics Information

Greetings Vikan Family!! As we transition from COVID restrictions this past school year for middle school athletics to what we anticipate in the 2021-2022 school year, a Vikan Sports Google Classroom has been created as a forum of communication for coaches, students, and parents. There will be schedules and important information posted in this google classroom. The google classroom code is rwur5xd. We are all looking forward to having athletics back at the middle school level. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available. Hotspot return reminder

We would like to remind you to return your hotspot if you have not done so already. Please see information below:


  • ALL hotspot devices will need to be returned to the school where it was issued beginning May 26th and must be received by June 1st

  • Please return the box & charger with the device

  • Service for all devices will be turned off on May 27th

  • We will reissue devices to students participating in summer learning recovery programs

  • Once reissued for summer school, service will resume on June 1st

  • Each family that returns their device by June 1st will be entered in the drawing for a $100 Gift Card to King Soopers!

Student Fees

Parents we would like to remind you that if you have not paid your student’s fees for the 2020-2021 school year, those fees will remain in your student's district account until they are paid in full and the fees will travel with your student as they move on to high school within our district. Please log in to Infinite Campus to check if you are up to date with fee payments. Click HERE to be directed to the online fee payment website.

Health Office Reminders

Medication pick up -


**PLEASE PICK UP YOUR CHILD’S MEDICATION FROM SCHOOL NO LATER THAN 5/20/21 for A group & 5/21/21 for B group. The only exception will be for medication that students require daily. Any medication that is not picked up will be disposed of, including inhalers and Epi-pens by the end of the school day on 5/26/21.


  • Please notify Gloria Wertz, Health Assistant @ 303-655-4103 Vikan Clinic or Google Voice : 720-583-5410 to make arrangements for end of the year medication pick up.
  • If your student has a self carry inhaler, please make sure they bring it to school the last few days as there will be no back up in the clinic.
  • Medication students require DAILY must be picked up prior to the last day of school on 5/26/21 or they will have to be destroyed.
  • Please check your email for medication forms for next year. The forms are also available on our 27j web site. Medication Authorizations must be renewed every year.


Summer Health - Please schedule your student for physicals over the summer to update immunizations, sign medication authorizations for medication at school, health care plans needed, and fill out Sport Physical forms if your student will be participating in sports for the 2021-2022 school year. Students WILL NOT be allowed to participate in sports or be given medication at school until the proper paperwork is done and turned into the office. Appointments are filling up fast, so please schedule your doctors appointments as soon as possible.

School District 27J must comply with current laws for the 2021-2022 school year. All students are required to be in compliance with Colorado Immunization laws in order to attend school or daycare. . No exceptions will be made for non-compliance. Students will not be allowed to attend school if we do not have an up-to-date immunization record or a current signed medical or personal exemption.

Requirements for submitting a personal, non-medical exemption for the 2021-22 school year are changing.

  • To opt out of any state-required vaccines, you will need to either 1) have the exemption signed by a medical care provider OR complete an online module, print the certificate, and submit it with your signed exemption.

Brighton Police Department Summer Activities

City of Brighton Volunteering Opportunity

The City of Brighton and Brothers Redevelopment, Inc. are looking for volunteers for their 15th annual Help for Homes community project!

The Help for Homes (HFH) program brings volunteers and neighbors together to paint or fix up homes needing minor exterior repairs and perform general yard cleanup for senior homeowners in Brighton. This year, the community-wide project will be Saturday, June 12.

Those interested in lending a hand, can put together a team of 8-10 friends, family and co-workers, or join a team that is already helping. There will be a team captain meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 1 at the Eagle View Adult Center.

The deadline to apply to be a volunteer is May 27. The application form can be found here.
