Celebration of Exceptional Children
All of our children at New Prospect are special in their own way! Students have different talents, come from different cultures, speak different languages, learn best in different ways and all have different personalities. These are the things that truly exemplify diversity and we are so happy that New Prospect is such a diverse school!
Next week we will celebrate Exceptional Children’s Week. The theme is “Connecting Educators, Students and Communities”. New Prospect is highlighting and celebrating the accomplishments of individuals with special needs by having a performance called Dancing with Our Stars. Students in K-2nd saw the dress rehearsal today and students 3-5 as well as our performers' parents are welcome to the performance on Tuesday March 6th @ 8:15am. Below are some pictures from today!

Gifted Screening for All Students
The Fulton County School System screens all students for eligibility for gifted services twice a year and uses a systematic approach to identify highly capable students who may qualify for gifted services. The gifted teacher routinely reviews available data to refer students for further assessment. Students meeting either the automatic screening OR the classroom screening criteria AND have supporting data gathered from test history, products, and/or advanced content levels are referred for additional testing to determine gifted eligibility. New Prospect Elementary is currently in the "classroom screening" phase.
Classroom Screening:
-All teachers use the Characteristics Instrument for Screening Students (CISS) to identify students with superior abilities in five or more of the following areas: motivation, interests, communications skills, problem-solving abilities, memory, inquiry, insight, reasoning, creativity, and humor.
Students who meet this classroom screening criteria AND who have supporting data
gathered from test history, products, and/or advanced content levels are referred for gifted placement testing.
Once referred to testing:
-Parents receive the Parent Notification for Testing Consent Form.
-Student is tested for the gifted program.
-Parents receive test results.
-If state eligibility is determined, students are placed in the gifted program with parental consent.
Parents may request to view their child’s screening results. For more complete information regarding Fulton County Schools Gifted Services, please visit the Advanced Studies page at:

DONATE FOR OUR Keep Warm DRIVE!
Dear all Parents & Guardians,
We would like to inform you about a keep warm Drive. Us fifth graders (Chloe, Kayla and Serenity) have been designing a Keep Warm Drive. We are extremely excited for our project. To help, your kids can
bring in old jackets that they don’t fit or wear anymore but, make sure to wash them before donating. There will be a big bucket either near the lost in-found or where carpool is released. If you don't have any jackets that your kid can't fit into, you can also bring in some gloves, hats ,and sweaters. Our goal for the keep warm drive is to fill up the bucket!
Sincerely,
Chloe, Kayla, and Serenity
From Mrs. McLeod-School Counselor
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
We all share a common and critical goal for our children to be safe and protected from all things harmful. In support of this goal, elementary school teachers and counselors will soon present annual lessons to students designed to increase their personal safety and protection. The Think First & Stay Safe™ program is a research-based program that teaches specific personal safety education by way of interactive classroom lessons. Think First & Stay Safe™ enables students to take an active and necessary role in protecting themselves from harassment, abduction, bullying, exploitation, and various forms of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional). The Health Advisory Committee reviewed and approved this program and selected components will be implemented through the elementary health curriculum by teachers and schools counselors.
Due to the importance of this topic, I want you to know when and how you may preview Think First & Stay Safe™ materials and when classroom teachers/counselors will be presenting this information to your child's class. Please contact your child’s counselor, Christina McLeod at mcleodcr@fultonschools.org to schedule a preview or if you have any questions. The materials will be available for preview from 2/26/-2/28. During the month of March, Think First & Stay Safe™ prevention lessons will be implemented for all K-5 students
If you prefer that your child not participate in the Think First & Stay Safe™ program, please email mcleodcr@fultonschools.org by March 1, 2018.
