Dear Alto Families,
It was another great week at school, and it’s hard to believe we’re already into November. The first trimester ends November 18th, so it is important that students continue to work hard to successfully complete this first tri. The week started with Halloween fun! It was great to see so many parents and grandparents here at the school. Thank you for helping to make it a great Halloween celebration for our kids! It is always a treat to see them dressed up in their costumes.
We are looking forward to our next family event! Due to our successful fundraising efforts, we are pleased to be able to bring the PE roller skating unit back again this year. Students will participate in this unit for two weeks, with the last day being Friday, December 9th. On December 9th, we will be hosting our annual Holiday Family Fun Night! This event will include roller skating opportunities for all family members, holiday craft making, and a hot chocolate bar. We hope your family is able to join us! The event will be held December 9th from 5:30-8:00 PM. All activities and the hot chocolate bar will be free to our families.
I would like to recognize the outstanding recycling efforts of our fourth grade teachers and students. Our fourth grade team has led the charge to improve recycling throughout the school. In support of this important initiative and learning opportunity, we have been able to use fundraising monies to purchase durable, plastic recycling bins (made of recycled plastic, of course) for all classrooms. Our fourth grade students collect these each week. Again, thank you for your support in helping to provide these kinds of learning opportunities for our students.
Have a great weekend!
Paul Papes, Principal
Art Update!
Your children are amazing! They have made the start of this new school year so enjoyable!
All students have been very busy creating eye-popping artwork that covers the hallways. So far we have focused on using line, shape, and color. At this moment most classes are painting with washable tempera paint which should go onto their papers opaque (not transparent or translucent). Most classes are painting with the primary colors as well as using the primary colors to mix and paint with the secondary colors, tertiary colors, tints and shades, and/or complimentary colors.
I hope your students are sharing their exciting color explorations, creativity, and learning with you! (Ask them to describe their artwork)
*It may be helpful (with your laundry) to remind students to wear dark clothes on art day. Though students do wear art vests for added protection, sometimes our paint escapes the vest in which case the dark clothing would be helpful.
