Principal's Message
First, I'd like to wish all of our students, staff, and families a wonderful and restful spring break. It is well deserved! I hope you have a chance to get outside, spent time with family, read a great book, or do whatever brings you joy.
I would also like to acknowledge that this time of joy has also been disrupted by the tragic events that took place this week in Atlanta. The murder of eight people, including six Asian women, has led to difficult conversations for many of our families, my own included. I'd like to reiterate the commitment of our district to continue our work on inclusion, equity and social justice with the goal of becoming an anti-bias, anti-racist organization.
To help support and make sense of what many of our students, families and staff are experiencing in light of these attacks and harassment, below is a list of resources that may help.
Yearbook Photos Needed
Stronger Together is this years yearbook theme! We are in need of a portrait photo for each FH child. Instructions on how to submit photos are included in this link http://bit.ly/37YitHb. In addition, the Yearbook Team is in need of photos of students doing their favorite hobby, cooking/baking, learning new skills, reading, outdoor activities, zoom school and pets.
5th Grade Request: Please provide 3-5 photos of your child at various ages ranging from infant up to current age. They can be portraits, candids, photos of your kiddo doing something they love, whatever! Please just make the photo large enough (at least 1MB file size) that your child's face can be easily seen and will print well in the yearbook. Photos can be uploaded to a google folder here:
5th Grade Yearbook Student Photos
Or, if for some reason you cannot put them into the Google Drive folder, they can be sent to Courtney Lindsey at cstewart143@hotmail.com or to me at leslie.kilian@gmail.com.
Please be sure you label them with your child's name and teacher (ex: BLindsey1-HamacheckAM, BLindsey2-HamacheckAM, etc. TKilian1-SchoenPM.jpeg, etc). The deadline for submission is March 19, 2021. We know this is a very short turn around but it's what we need in order to get the yearbook done in time for the end of this very weird school year. If you have questions please do not hesitate to reach out via email or phone (see below):

Days Added to 2020-21 School Calendar
At Monday night’s meeting the School Board approved an updated district calendar for the remainder of the 2020-21 School Year. Please click here for the updated calendar posted on the district website.
Changes were approved based on the loss of school days due to power outages, using the weather makeup days reserved at the end of the school year. Additionally, for our middle schools, the end of 3rd quarter has been pushed out a week. For our high schools, the 3rd quarter end date remains the same so as not to delay the return to Hybrid in-person at the start of 4th quarter.
Following is how these changes are reflected in the update school calendar:
April 9 -- Removed MS Grade Prep Day
April 16 -- Added as MS Grade Prep Day -- No school for middle school students
April 22 & 23 -- Removed Middle School conferences (now regular school days)
June 11 -- Now a regular school day
June 14, 15, 16 & 17 -- Removed the shading for weather makeup days
June 16 -- Marked as Last Day of Classes (a multi-synchronous Wednesday)
June 17 -- Now the Teacher Work Day
Dorian Portraits Also Available
Picture day is Tuesday, April 6. In-person students will have their pictures taken during the school day. Online students can come to the school from 3:45 to 5:00 PM. Re-takes will not be available this year and all student background will be the same blue background.
Recommended Quarantine After Traveling
With many in our community transitioning to in-person learning and Spring Break coming up at the end of March, it’s a good time to clarify the statewide guidance for travel. It’s recommended that people who are not vaccinated and who travel outside of the state of Oregon consider quarantining upon returning home.
LOSD is asking people to consider quarantining, but it is not required. Schools will not be keeping track of travel plans. It is up to each person and family to decide. If students choose to quarantine, instructional materials will be provided while out of school.
Per the Oregon Statewide Guidance for Travel, people are recommended to practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival in the state and limit their interactions to their immediate household. People may consider ending quarantine if they have had no symptoms: after 10 days with no testing or after 7 days with an antigen or PCR test.
Updated Forest Hills Bus Routes
The bus transportation company has updated the bus routes for both the morning and afternoon cohorts to and from Forest Hills Elementary. The updated routes can be accessed on the district website by clicking here or visiting the transportation page.
Please note, routes have been developed for students registered for the bus. If you need to register your student, please contact the transportation office at 503-387-5078 and have your student’s ID# available.
