Placement Input Survey
The Sheridan Hill Elementary School faculty regards the placement of students into classroom groups to be a very important professional responsibility. Our goal is to make the best possible decision, not only for an individual child but also for groups of children. We are committed to developing classroom combinations that are balanced with regard to strengths and needs. We strongly believe that all classes should reflect this balance. It is our belief that such classes maximize learning opportunities and are in the best interests of children and teachers. We are professionally committed to creating heterogeneous classes for each grade level.
The faculty at Sheridan Hill Elementary will work together to make the best possible educational decision about each child’s placement for the 2023-2024 school year. We thoroughly consider the following variables to arrive at a decision for individual children and to achieve a balanced grouping for each classroom:
★ Academic Achievement ★ Teaching styles ★ Work Habits and Study Skills ★ Gender ★ Learning styles ★ Time-Intensive Needs ★ Behavior ★ Placement history ★ Social/Emotional Needs
While we encourage parental input about each of the above variables, parent requests for specific teachers can be problematic. Do not request a teacher by name. The best information you can provide to assist in our placement of students is a description of your child, rather than a focus on the teacher. Please remember that we value your input, and it will be carefully considered in class placement; however, we do have an obligation to create educationally balanced classes based on the above criteria.
If you would like to provide some input about your child for consideration as teachers build classes for next year, please complete the Google Form below, Student Placement Survey, and submit no later than Friday, April 28, 2023. All surveys received by April 28th will be given serious consideration when based on the above guidelines. If you need assistance filling out this form, please contact your child’s teacher.
Heavenly Hats Thank You!
We had fun celebrating the last day before spring break by showing off some of our favorite hats while raising $627.12 for the Heavenly Hat Foundation. Thank you to all who participated and donated!
- DO NOT drop your child off before 7:30 when an attendant is not there to greet them.
- Students need to be dropped off by 8:00am to start their school day.
- Students are marked tardy at 8:05am and will need to sign in to the main office
- When dropping your child(ren) off, they should exit the side closest to the sidewalk
- Please be mindful of other vehicles moving in the circle
If your child is going to be absent from school or will be tardy, it is important that you contact the attendance clerk, Mrs. Gilbert to report the absence. You can reach her at 407-9270 or at sgilbert@clarenceschools.org.
- Starting in Kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10% can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two every few weeks.
