Five Key Strategies from the Video
1. Clarifying, understanding, and sharing learning intentions
2. Engineering effective classroom discussions, tasks and activities that elicit evidence of learning.
3. Providing feedback that moves learners forward.
4. Activating students as learning resources for one another.
5. Activating students as owners of their own learning .
Ideas about both Formative and Summative Assessments
Formative assessment is used to check students understanding and how well the student is learning the lesson.
Summative assessment is used for testing and grading what the students learned at the end of the lesson.
Assessments are very important for teachers to use. Assessment assist with tracking your students progress. And it shows if the student needs help with learning the lesson.
How both sets of ideas can be implemented to create an effective classroom environment
Both assessments being used in the classroom creates a certain balance, because in using formative assessment you get immediate feedback on how a child may learn. In preschool we use a tool called the brigance one of the assessments in the beginning. We also set goals, observe, and collect anecdotal notes on each child three times in the school year.
Examples
Formative Examples: Find fun ways to get the lesson across, have one on one time with the student, and or plan fun small groups.
Summative Examples: Having the students recall what has be taught during the lesson.
