CHRISTMAS CONCERT COSTUMES :)
Here are some awesome suggestions from parents on some things they have done:
-I have heard we are putting our Grandma's and Oma's to work! This is awesome :)
-A couple of parents have found a plain green clothing and are making their own accessories!
All costumes brought in by Thursday, December 10th please :)
Is is just me ... or does this moustache really suit him? ;)
Raz Kids & IXL
For Raz Kids: the program has been set to your child's reading level. Please ensure they are choosing your assignment and not book room to read books at their level.
For IXL: Please have your child work on the KINDERGARTEN level (unless I spoken to you specifically). You are probably wondering why I still have the kids working on K, but the Grade 1 questions (specifically adding and subtracting) are too advanced compared to our curriculum expectations.
If you need assistance on how to access either of these programs at home, please let me know. TIA!
Sight Word Scavenger Hunt with our Junior High Friends!
Let's not forget about our School Wide Holiday Project :)
The day that Melvin came..
What's coming for the month of December...
As you know.. Christmas concert preparation is in full swing :)
DON'T FORGET TO PRACTICE OUR CONCERT SONG AT HOME WITH YOUR CHILD!! The lyrics were sent home today!
Language - Word Study
For the month of December, we will be continuing to look at spelling and word segmenting 3 letter words. It is a very important skill to be able to distinguish the correct vowel in these common words (for example - in the word bug, students should be able to "stretch the word out" and know which letter says the short /u/ sound). SMART start is helping with this but if you would like some at home practice, please let me know.
Language - Reading
For the month of December, we will be continuing with word families and focus on syllables and rhyming. We will also be focusing on questioning when it comes to the stories we read. As always, we will also be continuing with SMART Start! Please assist your child to review the SMART start concepts by looking at the scribbler that comes home daily.
Language - Writing
For writing, we will be using these 3 letter words to write sentences. As part of sentence writing, students are expected to be able to write sentences using common words as well as draw a picture to match their sentences. We also talked about letter writing and wrote a letter to Santa!
We have recently started free writing as well. This is an activity that allows for the students to have the freedom to write about whatever they would like and boy are they blowing me away! They love writing!! Please encourage this at home :)
We have moved on and are now focusing on adding to 12 and skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's. We will be doing Math games and activities to practice these skills :)
Science & Social Studies
For Social Studies, we are continuing with weekly class meetings to help promote positive friendships while at school. We will be talking about things that are going great as well as things we need to work on not only in the classroom but also on the playground. We will also be looking at how we belong in groups and community, as well as symbols.
For Science, we finished our colours unit by doing some tie die! It was a blast :)
We won't be doing too much else for Science and Social this month, as we will be using this time to practice for the Christmas concert.
Health & Life Skills
Christmas ties in nicely to our Health curriculum. We will be discussing how Christmas may seem to be all about toys - but actually has a deeper meaning: spending time with friends and family and being appreciative of what we have :)
Fundraising baskets - Family Movie Night
The Friends of Crestomere is leading a basket fundraiser to assist in raising funds for school projects. Each class has a theme and is to bring in items to help raise money. The baskets will be raffled off at our Christmas concert.
Our classes' basket theme is Family Movie Night! I have bought a couple items to get us started. Let's put together an AWESOME basket! :) Please bring in items by Thursday, December 10th.

November Review - FYI :)
Want to make sure your child is on track? Please help ensure your child can successfully do the following on their own:
-beginning addition language (definition of addition and language used)
-recognize and print numbers to 20
-write 2 simple sentences (for example - I can see a cat.) using the smiley sentences checklist!
-can recognize and create rhyming word pairs (eg. cat and hat)
