Celebrate our Success
Week of October 16th
Note from Principal Louis
Hello Lincoln Community! As we approach the upcoming MEA break, I wanted to express my gratitude for your hard work and dedication to our students and school community. The MEA break will provide a well-deserved opportunity for all of us to unwind, rejuvenate, and spend quality time with our loved ones. It's essential to strike a balance between our professional responsibilities and personal well-being, and this break offers the perfect occasion to do so. I look forward to seeing all of you back, revitalized and ready to continue our collective efforts. If you have any questions or need assistance during the break, please don't hesitate to reach out. Until then, I wish you a wonderful restful MEA break.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month in the U.S. Every year on the third or fourth Wednesday in October, a very special event comes around — the Day of Unity, or Unity Day, as it is commonly called, which will be celebrated on October 18 this year.
Unity Day is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. Multiple anti-bullying campaigns — of which Unity Day is one of them, are organized during this period. The key message of this month, and this day, is to unite for kindness, courage, and inclusion, to prevent students from being bullied.

1. You are asymptomatic or symptoms are improving
2. It has been at least five days since you first felt sick OR tested positive, and
3. You have had no fever for at least 24 hours, without using fever-reducing medicine. Face coverings are still required by the Minnesota Department of Health for an additional five days for students and staff returning to school or work from isolation.
Close contacts are not required to complete a quarantine period. It’s strongly recommended they monitor for symptoms and stay home and seek testing if they’re feeling ill. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#search/cra/WhctKKZGcGRgXtpFmKCzHRNWdvrtjCLDtcxKgwWGRWxfBmpbbHmsSjZWJrKRxCkqqJGdDCv?projector=1&messagePartId=0.1

AVID
What is Avid Weekly?
AVID Weekly and AVID Elementary Weekly are curriculum resources that employ AVID's critical reading strategies to bring disciplinary literacy to life.

Our PCLs for the year will also focus on WICOR. WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. WICOR is a learning model that AVID uses to help students learn at higher levels and increase rigor in the classroom.
Mental Health Corner
The Staff Breakroom has many resources for you to use to take care of your mental health. It includes a page of Professional Resources if you are struggling and need help. Michelle and Kelsey are also great resources. Everything you say to them is confidential.
New Info- One way to practice self care is through meditation.
The term “meditation” refers to a variety of practices that focus on mind and body integration and are used to calm the mind and enhance overall well-being. Some types of meditation involve maintaining mental focus on a particular sensation, such as breathing, a sound, a visual image, or a mantra, which is a repeated word or phrase. Other forms of meditation include the practice of mindfulness, which involves maintaining attention or awareness of the present moment without making judgments. (1)
Meditation is easier than you think. Here is an example of mindfulness meditation1) Take a seat - Find a place to sit that feels calm and quiet to you.
2) Set a time limit - it's ok to choose a short time, such as five or 10 minutes.
3) Notice your body - be in a position you can stay in for a while and you are stable.
4) Feel your breath - Follow the sensation of your breath as it goes in and as it goes out.
5) Notice when your mind has wandered - simply return your attention to the breath.
6) Be kind to your wandering mind - Don’t judge yourself or obsess over your thoughts - just come back.
7) Close with kindness - When you’re ready, gently lift your gaze (if your eyes are closed, open them). Take a moment and notice any sounds in the environment. Notice how your body feels right now. Notice your thoughts and emotions.
That’s it! You focus your attention, your mind wanders, you bring it back, and you try to do it as kindly as possible (as many times as you need to).

Lincoln's Full-Service Community School
Lincoln Community,
I have been receiving some questions regarding Community School programming at Lincoln and wanted to send out a quick message to answer the questions that I have been hearing. Please feel free to reach out with any others you may have.
First, we know this is new to Lincoln and please rest assured that we will work with everyone as much as possible to ensure a smooth transition for staff and students from the regular school day to after school programming.
Here are the highlights of what to expect with Community School.
1. Community School programming will run Monday-Friday from 2:55pm-5:30pm from October 2nd through May 17th.
2. Programming will be from 2:55pm-4:30pm with a community dinner until 5:30pm.
3. No classrooms will be used until 3:30pm as students will be getting snacks and running off energy prior to coming back in for programming.
4. Classroom usage will be scheduled to correspond with the building's schedule. This means that classroom usage will switch each quarter. Please note that we WILL NOT use any of your classroom materials for Community School programming. We will bring our own supplies and clean up after ourselves.
5. This first quarter's schedule is as follows: Grades K-1 will be in 123, Grades 2-3 will be in 126, grade 4 will be in 127, and grade 5 will be in 130. Please note that this may need to change if we get more students participating.
6. Instructors: We have hired community school staff to teach programs. All staff have gone through training and will continue to do professional development opportunities throughout the school year. We feel strongly that we need to have high quality staff to ensure a safe and high quality program.
7. We continue to look for more people that would like to lead programs so if you are interested, please let me know! We are looking for talented individuals that have special hobbies, interests, etc. that they would like to share. Maybe there is something amazing that you would like to try in your own classrooms, but just really never have the time. Well.... now can be that time! (Plus... we cover your supply costs!!!)
8. I will also be on site and assist with any needs during programming hours and throughout the school day.
9. Each program will have a variety of activities but they will be broken out into themes. This first session we will be going over and practicing rules and expectations in community school. We plan on being consistent and following the same rules and expectations they follow through the school day. We will also be getting to know our students and give them an opportunity to voice their opinions on which activities they would like to experience. Session 1 is only two weeks. During session 2 they will do a series of activities based on nature. For example, leaf stamping, fall scavenger hunts, learning about why leaves change color in the fall, etc.
10. As of right now we have 37 students currently registered and I have attached an updated roster. At this time we don’t have any students that are drop ins. If that changes I will communicate that and add it to the roster notes. I will also be updating this roster as more student register!
Lincoln Community School Roster
Thank you all for your patience and support! I look forward to working with all you and to having a great school year!
If you are interested in working afterschool at any of the Community School sites, please consider applying for one of the Community School positions! We are looking for Community School Instructional Leads - Job ID: 4536.

From Kain Smith - Fob Access
Building staff fobs work on all doors in your assigned building 6am to 4pm Monday - Friday. Your fobs will work on each building door where the alarm keypad is located 6am to 11pm seven days a week. If you are unsure which door that is please contact the Lead Custodian in your building and they will show you. If you are new to the district and haven't been shown the alarm system procedures the Building Lead can help you with that as well.
Coaches if you know or think you'll be coming in late because of an away game contact me directly with the dates you'll need access late and I'll grant you temporary access for that day.
Submitting CEUs in your Vector account
District training will be entered in Vector on your behalf after November 1, 2022. ONLY submit District training that has not been submitted up to November 1, 2022.
