Parking
The Doherty parking lot is small. We will have parking attendants available to let you know if there are spaces available in the Doherty lot.
If the lot is full, the attendants will ask you to park at Temple Shir Shalom. If you park at Temple Shir Shalom, there will be a shuttle bus available to drive you to Doherty and back to your car.
Temple Shir Shalom is located at 3999 Walnut Lake Road. It is just east of Orchard Lake Road, on the south side of Walnut Lake (right near Doherty Elementary).

Action Items
There are several things you should do when you attend Popsicles with the Principal, and you can really do them in any order that you would like. Be sure to check the map above to find out where each action item is located. They include the following:
Drop off school supplies. If you bring your child’s school supplies to the proper drop off area, they will be delivered to his/her classroom.
Visit your child’s teacher.
Pick up materials from your child’s teacher. When you visit your child’s teacher, the teacher will have a packet for you that includes the following:
PBIS Rewards Letter--use this to set up PBIS Rewards on your phone, as this is how we communicate how well your child behaved each day
Emergency Card Update Page--update the information on this page and turn it in to your child’s teacher as soon as possible
Backpack Tag--for after school plan; please fill this out and attach to your child’s backpack for the first day of school
Turn in materials to your child’s teacher. Any materials that need to be turned in will be given to your child’s teacher. This includes “Health Care Alert” forms, “Medication Permission” forms, and any other documents we asked you to complete prior to the event.
Visit the PTO table.
Visit Kids Klub, Nutrition, or Transportation. Visit any one of these tables if you need to learn about before/after school care, breakfast/lunch services, and bus logistics.
Visit Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Get a popsicle for your child. Popsicles will be located in coolers near each grade level.
If you have a chance, please find me and say hello. I am excited to meet you and your child.
After Popsicles with the Principal, please check your email for an important form that we will ask you to fill out before the first day of school. This form helps us know your child’s after school plans.
Where To Go The First Day of School...
First and foremost, if you are dropping your child off through the car line, please keep the following in mind:
- Please do not park and walk your child in. We have staff that will escort your child from the car to where they need to go.
- Please refer to the parking lot and car line expectations included below when dropping off.
When students are dropped off by bus or by car the first few weeks at Doherty, they will do the following:
- A Doherty staff member will escort them towards the correct entrance (near the gym/cafeteria).
- Once escorted to the correct location, students will line up in the Gym or Cafeteria (where they go depends on their teacher). Please see the list below.
- Teachers will be present to help organize their lines. There will also be a poster with a picture of the teacher and his/her name to help remind students where to line up.
Kids Klub Students (Before/After School Care)
- Students dropped off in the morning for Kids Klub can be dropped off in the bus loop, right near the office. This is the same spot for pick-up.

Doherty Elementary Traffic Plan
At both pick-up and drop-off:
- Cars enter using the right lane and loop through the parking lot.
- Once cars enter the parking lot, you'll notice that there are two lines of green arrows. We ask that you form two lines at this part of the parking lot. This is important, as it allows for more cars to fit in our car loop and ensures that our car line does not stop/block traffic on Walnut Lake Road.
- Pull to the farthest available spot in the "Pick-Up/Drop-Off" area.
- Drivers should remain in the car.
- Children should exit and enter the car through the driver side.
- Staff and volunteers will be available to assist children in opening and closing doors.
At drop-off:
- Children should remain in the car until 8:05 AM.
At pick-up:
- Place the Carline Identification Card (you'll receive one at Popsicles with the Principal) in the front window so it is visible.
In an effort to keep children safe, I agree to the following procedures:
- I will place the Carline Identification Card that I receive at the start of the year in my front window so staff can easily identify me.
- I will follow the traffic lanes as indicated on the map.
- I will follow directions provided by the Doherty Crossing Guard and other personnel.
- I will arrange seats and other interior items so my child can safely enter and exit my care through the back door on the driver's side of the vehicle.
- I will remain in the vehicle, and I will allow a Doherty Staff Member to escort my child to and from the car.
In an effort to help ensure smooth and safe operations at Doherty Elementary, I agree to the following procedures:
- I will not park in the Doherty Parking Lot during drop-off or dismissal unless I have urgent business in the office/school.
- I understand that my child may not enter the building before 8:05 AM each morning, unless he/she attends Kids Klub (before school care).
- I understand that my child will be sent to Kids Klub (paid after school care) if he/she is not picked up when the car line closes at 3:40 PM.
