Principal Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
I hope that you have had a great week and that everyone is settling into the school year nicely. This week I am excited to share with you about an innovative new program we are piloting at ECES. All schools across our district offer students the opportunity to participate in competitive VEX IQ robotics competitions as an after school activity.
This year at Eagle Crest we are excited to be the first SVVSD elementary school to incorporate robotics into our 5th grade curriculum. This means that every fifth grade student in our school will have the opportunity to go through the design thinking process, work in innovation teams, and complete an official robotics challenge from start to finish. We will still have an opportunity for students to participate in VEX IQ robotics after school (more info coming soon!) but we are excited to broaden our reach and to give as many students as possible access to these super cool learning opportunities.
I hope you have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Amanda

Dean of Students Update
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
Part of our Leadership Focus is that we intentionally cultivate opportunities for students to be leaders within and outside of school. One of the first projects this year was to have a group of 5th Graders ideate and develop a video that communicated to all students about the expectations around being a leader at recess. They came up with all the ways students should be safe, responsible, and caring and produced and filmed the video. It turned out great! All students watched this video yesterday, you can watch the video here!
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students

PTO Update
Dear Eagle Crest Families,
Thank you for dining out at Chipotle on Tuesday evening to support our school. This month, PTO funded the return of Mr. G's Square State Skate program for 3rd-5th graders. We are excited to bring back this popular class that not only teaches about the physical components of skateboarding but also about grit, positive mental approaches to challenges and inclusion of everyone "on the boards".
We are kicking off our Fall Fund the Need campaign today! Look for info in your child's Thursday folder. Throughout the month of September, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution, so that we can fund field trips, teacher-requested programs, teacher appreciation and more community-building events! Due to COVID restrictions last spring, the PTO had little time to plan and communicate needs for Laps for Leadership, so we were unable to incorporate our typical fundraising campaign. Please remember that any amount is welcome and every dollar makes a tremendous impact. Donations can be made online or by cash/check made out to Eagle Crest PTO.
Join us for our first Coffee with the Principal & PTO meeting with FREE Fairisle Coffee on Thursday, September 16th after drop-off around 8:45 a.m. outside the front of school.
And finally, save the date for our first Welcome Back to School Picnic on Friday, September 17th from 5-7:30 p.m. with music, CYCLHOPS food truck and Sweet Cow ice cream. Pizza pre-order forms are also in Thursday folders or download here - all pre-orders due Friday, September 10th. No pizza will be sold at the event.
Warmly,
Jenn Pensy, PTO president

Gifted and Talented Nominations
Each year St. Vrain Valley School District completes a process to identify students in grades K-12 who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic or talent areas and may therefore qualify for Gifted and Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s) and require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas. Learn more about this process and complete the nomination form here.
iPad Insurance
Now that most students have their brand new devices, it is extremely important that EVERY student is enrolled in the iPad Insurance Program. It costs $25 per student. Without insurance, a broken iPad could cost your family around $236 and a lost iPad would cost $473.
You can pay for insurance within your Infinite Campus Portal or on RevTrak. If you need help accessing these accounts or need to set up a payment plan, contact the front office.
Deadline for Insurance Sign-Up: September 10th
Update From Our Sister School in Uganda
Exciting news this week! All the teachers at Mwebaza Annex, our partner school, got vaccinated on September 1st!!!! There is a big push in Uganda right now to get as many teachers vaccinated as possible so they can open the schools. Some of the lock down restrictions have been lifted as well. Transportation is again available so that people can get to work and other places. Everyone is waiting to hear when they will open the schools to all students. Meanwhile teachers will continue to supply students with take home packets to work on at home.
