Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter-
January 26, 2017
What is going on?
Writing: We will learn how poets use repetition to show importance, as well as, rhyming words and rhythm to entertain. Students will use sensory language to create a concrete poem.
Spelling Words and Grammar: better, dress, goes, light, mother, own, small, walk
This week we will be focusing on adjectives and how to use them to add details in our writing.
Reading: : We will be exploring the genre of poetry. We will describe how rhyme, rhythm, and repetition interact to create images in poetry.
Math: This week, we will begin our unit on measurement. Students will practice measuring the length of objects using inches and centimeters and telling time to the nearest one-minute increment.
Social Studies: Students will become Geographers as we dive into map exploration! We will create our own maps using important map details such as a title, compass rose, map key and legends.
Please remind our students to wash hands- the school has had a lot of sickness. Knock on wood, we are staying well in our class. I really think being in a portable does cut down on sickness. Hey! A perk of being out here!
On that note we are in need of donations of Clorox wipes. I would appreciate it!
We will also need one bag of gummy worms for a math activity coming up. If you can donate, please contact me. Thank you for considering-

***Patsy Sommer Wall Of Champions***
Sommer PTA Healthy Lifestyles is sponsoring our very own STALLION WALL OF CHAMPIONS! Do we have any football or basketball players out there? Perhaps you like to hike or bike. Maybe a dance class or a pickup game of baseball at the park? We need photos of you BEING ACTIVE for our Wall Of Champions! All grades, and all faculty and staff are invited to participate. Photos need to be 5x7 or smaller, and turned in to the marked envelope in the gym during PE or before school starting this week. If you would like your photo returned, it must have your name, teacher, and grade on the back.
Teachers, if students bring pics to YOU, tell them to take them to the gym during PE. You have enough papers and things to shuffle all day!
Patsy Sommer is fortunate to have received science kits from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for use in the Innovation Station and in the classrooms. This donation was made possible by Mrs. Hema Ramaswamy, Section Chair, IEEE K-12 Outreach. Students are already using the magnet kits in the Innovation Station and we look forward to many more hands-on science experiences through future collaboration with IEEE.
