Newsletter Week 10 Term 1
Shelly Park School - Wednesday 6th of April 2022
Dear Parents and Whānau
This will be my last newsletter before the end of Term 1. It has been great to be able to keep the school open and running for a whole term, what a novelty. With cases decreasing in Auckland we have seen this reflected in our attendance at school. As of Monday this week, we had 94% of our students back in school. We currently have 2 students isolating at home due to contracting Covid and all other previous cases have recovered.
The school pool will be closed on Thursday 14th of April for the winter season. I am really pleased that we made the decision to keep our pool open over the summer period as it has seen a lot of use. Please could all keys be returned to the office by the 14th of April (last day of term). A $10 refund will be given when your key has been returned.
School Uniform - after the school holidays, all children will be required to wear the correct NAMED winter uniform. In regards to footwear:
Girls - Navy socks or navy tights and black footwear
Boys - Navy Socks and black footwear.
I am pleased to announce that in Term 2 inter school sport will be up and running. In Term 2 we will see the return of Hockey, Netball, Football and Rugby. I know we will have some very excited students ready to compete against our neighbouring schools.
A reminder that our Parent/Teacher Conferences take place next Tuesday 12th of April, 1pm - 8pm and Wednesday 13th of April, 3:30pm - 5:30pm. Our Tuesday conferences will be in person and on Wednesday they will be done via Google Meet. I am encouraged to see that we have over 420 bookings over the two days. This means that over 90% of you will be having one on one meetings with your child's teacher or literacy support teacher, great stuff.
Finally, have a great term break with your family. It has been a busy and long term but one that has felt relatively normal. Stay safe and enjoy the last of the warm weather.
Pod 4 Triathlon
It was fantastic to see all the training being put into practice on Friday. The children did an amazing job swimming, biking/scootering and running. It was a morning filled with lots of smiles from many children. A huge congratulations to all the children who participated. The top 3 champs from each age group will be announced during this weeks at our Pod assemblies. Thank you to the parents who offered to help on the day, it was much appreciated. Keep an eye out on the Shelly Park Sports Facebook page for photos and videos of the day.
Pod 4 Basketball
We have been trialling the children and will continue this week. Once the teams are finalised the children will be told their training day and given more information.

Shelly Park has again registered to collect the Yummy Apple stickers. These stickers are converted into a winning share
of the $200,000 sports prize pool from DG Sport. All you have to do is purchase ‘Yummy’ branded apples, save the
stickers or cut out labels, place them on a sticker collection sheet and return them to your classroom teacher. The apples
can be purchased from New World, Pak n Save and participating Four Square stores.
The Yummy Apple Sticker Promotion officially runs for Terms 2 and 3, however if you have been collecting since last year,
these stickers still count too. If you need more Sticker Collection Sheets or Cut out label collection sheets they will be
available at the Office or with your classroom teacher. Please return all completed Collection sheets to your classroom
teacher or hold onto these sheets until the end of Term 3 for collection - we will let you know!
Thank you to those who have recently purchased an entertainment book. The PTA truly does appreciate the extra funds
that the school gains from each purchase. All memberships last 12 months from the date of purchase.
Every membership sold gives 20% back to our school! Please support our school with this fundraiser, and share this
link with family, friends and work colleagues. Use this link to find out more! https://nz.entdigital.net/orderbooks/954z61
A reminder that all parents are automatically members of the PTA and encouraged to join us for our monthly meetings to
hear from Ed & the Board of Trustees about what is happening at the school, and find out what fundraising activities are
planned for the months ahead.
