Principal Announcements
We have had a great start to our school year! Middle School athletics (Girls Tennis, Cross Country, Volleyball and Football) are all enjoying their competitions. At this time, while our county is in Orange/Red for COVID, we are only allowing family of athletes and their siblings at games.
We are in need of mask and water bottle donations as we give out about 25 per day and are running out of what was provided by the school/district at the beginning of the year! Thank you to families who have already donated!
We have a new Zoom support link for students in Quarantine which will help students with questions regarding Google Classroom work while they are out. This will be emailed to any student and their parent if they must quarantine as a result of a COVID incident. Students who log in to the link will also be counted as PRESENT for attendance that day! This will be a big benefit to our families!
A reminder to make sure students are well and do not have any symptoms prior to leaving for school each morning. We are all doing the best we can to make sure that all students and their families are safe and healthy! If a student must be gone, be sure to call the school to excuse the student!
Beginning of the year academic screening is in full swing (Scantron Math and Reading) as well as a new screener (Fastbridge). We will be sharing results of these screeners with families at October Parent Teacher Conferences.

Band Happenings
The Football Band did an awesome job playing for our team vs. Eisenhower. Beginning band students have learned our first notes and are learning some cool songs. Great job! Keep up the good work.
Concert Band (7th & 8th grade) is hard at work on music for our Mass Bands performance on Oct. 8 with the band from Eisnhower and Highland Park HS.

Chromebook Responsibilities
Every Chase student has had a lesson on Chromebook responsibilities. If they were absent, the video lesson was emailed to them, and it is also on the library Google Classroom.
It is very important that students take their Chromebook home every day, charge it overnight, and bring it to school 100% charged every day. We do have a few backup device for those "oops" occasions, but if it becomes a habit, students will be calling home and asking for help making sure they are prepared for school each day.
If you would like to review student Chromebook expectations, the video is available in the students' Library Google Classroom and on the Chase Library Website: csschwanke.wixsite.com/cmslibrarymc/chromebooks

PTO News
Thank you to Jessica Fisk, parent of a Chase 8th grader, for providing concessions for our home football game as a PTO fundraiser!
The next fundraiser will be a concession table at October's Parent Teacher Conferences. PTO will also provide trashbags for sale during Boys Basketball games and the February Parent Teacher Conferences.
PTO is wanting to help Chase with providing water bottles (clear plastic water bottles) for students at Chase. They are also collecting surgical or cloth masks for students. If you are interested in donating, email (jstallbaumer@tps501.org) or call (295-3840) Mrs. Stallbaumer in the Chase office.
The next PTO Meeting is on October 5th from 5-6 pm.

Nursing Clinic Updates
Ms. Shelly Garst is Chase’s new school nurse this year! In appreciation for all the hard work Topeka Public Schools nurses are doing during the pandemic, District Leadership sent flowers today! We love our new school nurse and appreciate all she is doing to keep students and staff safe!
All students entering 7th grade are required to have a Tdap (tetanus booster) and a Meningococcal vaccination on file. If you have not yet submitted that information, please forward as soon as possible. If your student is new to the district, ALL vaccination records will need to be sent. If your student has received the Covid Vaccination, please provide verification for their file. You may email records to sgarst@tps501.org or fax to (785) 575-6632 or send a paper copy directly to the school.
