Plus-Minus- Interesting (PMI)
K-12
BIG IDEA
P: "Plus" things they like/agree with
M: "Minus" things they don't like/disagree with
I: "Interesting" ideas or thoughts they find intriguing
DIRECTIONS
2. If this is the first time using a PMI with your student, then model how to use it before asking them to do it independently.
3. Have students draw a PMI chart or give them a pre-created one. As students watch the video or read the article have them categorize their feelings or thoughts about ideas being presented. If you're using a video, then pause every few minutes to provide students time to take notes.
4. Facilitate a group discussion and have students share what they put in each column.
WHEN TO USE
STRATEGY VARIATIONS
Reading: While reading any story, students can make a decision for a character and see if the character made the same choice.
Math: Students could use a PMI to chose the best strategy to solve a problem.
