Tiger Talents
Fourth graders Sierra Brouwer and Ali Melone created their own Rube Goldberg machines. A Rube Goldberg machine, named after American cartoonist Rube Goldberg, is a machine designed to perform a simple task in an overly complicated way. These machines are fun to watch, but tough to build. Thanks for sharing your creations with us, Sierra and Ali!

Sticky Business
Last week, in their study of informational texts, fifth grade ELA students read an article titled "Sticky Business". The article was about a girl, Anna, who was bothered by the amount of chewed bubble gum she kept finding in places where it should not be, such as underneath desks and on street signs throughout her city. She thought there must be something that can be done with all this chewed bubble gum so that it is not polluting our cities. So Anna created small bins to be placed all throughout her city where people can dispose of their chewed bubble gum.
Then, Anna collected all the gum, and with the help of a few more people, she created a company that would recycle and turn chewed bubble gum into things such as school supplies and travel mugs!
The fifth grade teachers challenged their students to be as creative as Anna and design a new use for recycled bubble gum. Then, they created advertisements for their designs. Take a look as some of their work, pictured below.
