Transitioning to Windows 10
**If you are exclusively a Mac user, this update does not apply to you.**
In response to Microsoft's change, Technology staff will be installing Windows 10 on all PCs by December 31, 2019. Some computers will need to be replaced in order to make this update. If your computer is capable of running Windows 10, your device will not be replaced, but it will be "re-imaged." This basically means your current computer will start as a new device. Before your computer goes through the re-image process, you will need to transfer your files to a cloud-based storage system like Google Drive or OneDrive.
- Clerical staff and administrators and supervisors were trained on Windows 10 over the summer.
- Training for instructional staff will be scheduled by school administrators and the Digital Integration Specialists (DIS) and will be held before winter break.
- Employees who use computers only to report time worked and to check email do not need to be trained on Windows 10.
Say Hello to the Cloud...
**If you are exclusively a Mac user, this update does not apply to you.**
The update protects your work by saving it to the cloud rather than our servers. These cloud-based services are maintained under rigorous security standards set by the federal government.
In the event that you accidentally delete files on the cloud, you can initiate a file restore directly with the provider. Google Drive and OneDrive have data centers all over the world that maintain several copies of your digital work.
Training and support for migrating your files to the cloud will be provided.
Technology Quick Tip: Spotting SPAM
- Does the email body include the red warning banner, indicating the email came from outside our WCPS system?
- Hover your mouse cursor over the sender's name to view the email address. Review this carefully as scam artists try to create email addresses similar to our accounts.
Quick Fix: Adobe Flash Update
To navigate to Self Service:
- Select "Launchpad" (rocket ship icon) from your dock.
- Click on Self Service (this may be on the second screen, which will require you to swipe left on your trackpad).
- Install "Adobe Flash" from there.
Two-Factor Authenti-what?
Staff is thoroughly reviewing several considerations with this process and will share more information in the future.
