CCS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN EDUCATION THINK TANK
As part of our journey towards proficiency-based learning and personalized learning within CSSU, we are creating opportunities for students to give their input. Middle school students from each of the K-8 schools within our district are participating in a “Think Tank” experience. Last week thirteen 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from CCS went to CVU where they gave their input on their learning experiences. Some of the discussion questions were: What does it mean to learn? What structures are you experiencing that support or hinder learning? What structures encourage failure and what structures discourage failure? What’s the purpose of middle school? What should be the purpose of middle school? What causes stress/anxiety? How can schools help with this?
Students had a chance to tour CVU and talk with some of the high school students. They were able to see some of the self-directed personalized learning in action as they visited classes. In the Spring, the students will meet with the other middle school groups from the CSSU K-8 schools for another round table discussion. The information gathered from students will be shared with administration, teachers, other students, and the community.
