HINGHAM HIGHway :::: HHS Newsletter
September 30, 2022
As we close out the first month of the school year, this is a good time to…
salute our Student Council, one of the largest and most active in the state, for organizing a Spirit Week that will not soon be forgotten;
reflect on the benefits of living in a community that fills our campus (literally!) with generosity, music, and joyful noise throughout Homecoming Weekend;
congratulate our fall athletic teams, who collectively accomplished an unbeaten Homecoming weekend while playing before large and spirited home crowds; and
thank the faculty chaperones who helped us to host a memorable Homecoming Dance for more than 600 students last Saturday night.
During the week ahead, HHS will…
recognize our excellent custodial staff in connection with National Custodian Appreciation Day (10/2);
commemorate the start of National Disability Month (October);
hold the first “Student-Principal Forum” of the year after school on Monday 10/3 (2:45 PM in the counseling office conference room) for any student who wishes to bring issues or concerns to the principal;
have its first early-release day (Wednesday 10/5) to allow for professional development for teachers; students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM;
host a “Principal’s Coffee” (with our K-12 Director of Counseling, Heather Rodriguez, joining as a special guest) on Thursday 10/6 at 8:30-9:30 AM in Room 103; and
host the monthly PTO meeting on Thursday at 9:30-10:30 AM in Room 103.
In other news:
The HPS incident reporting form is newly updated and can be found at this link on the website
An updated “Chain of Communication” has been posted on the district website.
School closing procedures have been updated and can be viewed here; let’s hope the beautiful fall weather lasts, and we don’t need those protocols anytime soon!
Two calls for help:
Although the school year is off to a strong start, HHS is not immune to the staffing shortages that plague schools nationwide. In fact, throughout the past week, we could have used at least four more substitute teachers every day. If you can help as a substitute teacher or instructional assistant, please apply to join our team of exceptional educators. No teaching experience or special expertise is required. You just need a desire to make a positive difference in the life of your community.
HHS will host 18 exchange students (all sophomores and juniors) from France next month (10/27 - 11/5), and we still need a few more host families. If you can help, please contact Mr. Porter (aporter@hinghamschools.org) for more information.
The daily notices and full school calendar can always be viewed on the HHS website. Look for details on the website and in our weekly PTO newsletter.
Hope to see you at HHS soon, maybe even tonight, when our third “Friday Night Lights” experience of the season (7 PM football game vs. Whitman-Hanson, featuring a halftime performance from the dance team) promises to deliver another uplifting experience for the whole community!
Principal Swanson
A salute to teachers who will choose to spend a Saturday night with 650 of their favorite students!
It wouldn't be Game Day at HHS without the voice and steady scoreboard management of Greg Partyka. All day long, and year after year, this community could not ask for a better Homecoming companion.
HHS enjoyed cloudless skies throughout Homecoming Weekend, and its teams remained unbeaten from start to finish!
