What's Happening in Special Areas
Your CCES Special Areas Teachers Have News For YOU!
Art with Mrs. Kuzminsky and Mrs. Sachs
Hi Parents!
In visual arts classes for the first nine weeks students are focusing on the elements of art. These include line, color, and shape, to mention a few. The level of difficulty changes as students get older. For example, a Kindergarten student will learn to identify and use different lines, while a fifth grader will be using lines in gesture drawings and perspective drawings.
Your child learns so many things through the visual arts! Besides learning technique, art history, and various art media, we also make connections to math, social studies, language arts, and science! If you ever wonder what is being taught, we welcome you to reference the art curriculum on the right side of the following web page:

We are also available any time you have questions!
Music with Mr. DeStefano and Mrs. Ingraham
CCES Music is off to a great start! During the first nine weeks, we will be focusing on beat, rhythm and meter. Students are busy learning how to read, create and write rhythm patterns and hear how songs have groups of two, three and four beats.
Our after school music programs are off to a great start as well. We have a wonderful group of singers in Chorus this year and have already started working on blending, developing reading skills and building harmonies. The Orff Ensemble is very full and will be working on working together as an ensemble through movement, body percussion and of course playing instruments.

P.E. at CCE
Hello CCES families, the past couple of weeks we have been talking about fitness in grades 3-5 and the importance of being active. We discussed 3 components of fitness: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility. The students learned many exercises that help improve each of those areas. The K-2 students have been working on Loco-motor movements like running, skipping, hopping, jumping, and galloping.
For the next couple of weeks we will be focusing on throwing and catching and the many games and activities associated with that skill.
WELLNESS TIP OF THE MONTH: PRIORITIZE YOUR TIME WITH EXERCISE, HEALTHY MEALS AND FAMILY FUN.
Media and Technology
Hello CCES Parents!
The infographic above shows topics that will be covered in Media Tech Lessons this year. Be sure to bookmark the CCES Information Center Symbaloo page. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Would you like to be more involved in your child’s school?
Do you love books?
Can you spare just one day per month to help out in the CCES media center?
http://www.tinyurl.com/ccesmedia to sign up!
Volunteers in the Crabapple Crossing Media Center are an integral part of its daily operations. A huge volume of books is checked out and returned every day. Our volunteers assist with checking books in and out, shelving materials, and helping students locate books. Volunteers enable the media specialists to be more responsive to the individual needs of the students and teachers. We are always looking for people that can volunteer a couple of hours each month.
We especially need volunteers on Wednesdays as Ms. Bondi will be teaching technology classes and Ms. Jackson will be alone in the media center and is unable to check out books during classes. This is a great opportunity to see how things work during the school day, plus you can take a break to eat lunch with your children.
