Post War America was a time of prosperity economically, politically, and socially. A "baby boom" expanded the population, suburbs sprang up, and large numbers of people moving to the West and Sun Belt grew the populations of those areas. Communism was the major conflict during this time. Joseph McCarthy was a United States politician who accused many American citizens of being communist, because communism was such a scary thing to many like McCarthy things like the iron curtain were put into place. The iron curtain was a political barrier placed on the people of Eastern Europe after WWII. It restricted their ability to move outside of this area. Another major accomplish during post war America was the great space race. Although the soviets got Sputnik into space first, it helped the US improve their skills , and they used it to their advantage.
