Scholar Academy
Welcome Back!
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As summer winds down and the new school year approaches, I am looking forward to instructing your child in my 9th grade Biology class at Scholar Academy. Over the summer, I have been busy planning many classroom activities for the upcoming school year that I believe will be interesting, engaging, and expand your child's knowledge of Biology.
As a recent graduate of the University of Houston College of Education, I am very excited to begin my teaching career at Scholar Academy. In addition to my Master's of Education degree, I bring with me several years experience working as a Associate Teacher in a high school science classroom. I am dedicated to do whatever it takes to see your child succeed in my classroom and hope that I might spark an interest in your child to learn more about the scientific world!
Your child will be given a school-issued laptop at the start of the school year and it will replace the Biology textbook that students have used in prior years. Your child will use the laptop to take quizzes/tests, take notes in class, and complete all homework assignments. The laptop will also be used to communicate with you via email on your child's progress throughout the year. I will be sending out an email every Friday afternoon to all parents, informing them on their child's current academic standing in my class. Should your child fall behind or need additional help at any time during the year, I will relay that information to you and make myself available after class to give your child the extra support he or she needs.
During the upcoming school year, I have planned several parent-teacher "open houses" in my classroom, where you will be able to see firsthand the activities the students are working on and learn more about the discoveries they are making each & every day. I strongly encourage all parents/guardians to attend and I look forward to meeting you in person at that time! The parental support & guidance you give your child, along with my daily instruction, is vital to ensuring that your child has a successful academic year at Scholar Academy!
Finally, I've planned 3 very exciting field trips this year that I know your child will enjoy very much! The first trip will be to see the new dinosaur exhibit at the nearby Museum of Natural Science, which will occur at the end of the first month of school and will nicely complement your child's first unit of study--The History of Life on Earth. The second field trip will be to a magnificent local botanic garden, and the final field trip will be an overnight trip on a ship where your child will have 2 fun-filled days to go whale-watching out in the open ocean! In a couple weeks from now, I will be emailing you more specific details on these field trips along with permission forms that parents/guardians must sign & return to me in a timely manner.
I am very hopeful that this will be a successful & memorable academic year for your child. Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns you may have!
Sincerely,
Stephen Niejadlik
