Welcome to our new Dean, Ms. Terry, on WEDNESDAY!!!
Greetings to all! My name is Latoya Terry, and I am thrilled to join the Miner family and serve as the Dean of Students at Concord Middle.I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools from Pre-K to 12th grade. I am a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I received a master’s degree in Reading Education (K-12) and a graduate certificate in Educational Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am also a National Board certified teacher.I have always felt compelled to be an educator and truly believe that preparing our students for the future is the most important job in the world. I served as a classroom teacher for nine years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools system. For the last five years, I have served as an academic facilitator and a reading coach. In these roles, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to support a greater range of students and staff members.I live in Charlotte and enjoy spending time with my family and friends. A few fun facts about me are that I once worked as a tour guide at an art museum, I like to go salsa dancing, and I have pretty eclectic taste in music. I’m looking forward to working with you all!

Miner Time - new groups start MONDAY!
Miner Time
New Miner Time groups begin on Monday, March 19th. All 1st block teachers -please remind students of where to go for Miner Time on Monday. (Especially 8th grade students who were on the DC trip will need to be told where to go!!)
It is imperative that all students are accounted for during Miner Time and are engaged in either remediation activities or literacy (reading) activities! Since Miner Time is only 35 minutes, students should NOT be allowed to leave the classroom to go to the restroom or anywhere else in the building. Please let admin know if there is a student who is not showing up for your Miner Time.

IB Information
After you have used the Unit Planner Cheat Sheet, please send me notification that your units are ready to be reviewed this week. We need them complete and polished by March 29. Sometimes it takes a couple of revisions before they are ready to be submitted.
Have you posted everything necessary in your rooms? Here are some pictures of what should be posted. I’m sure you already have the IB information on boards for your units, but just in case, here are some helpful printables.
MTSS/PBIS Reminders
- Teachers who take students to lunch- Please remind students on Monday & Tuesday before going to the cafeteria that students are expected to stay seated in cafeteria once they have gotten their food. Students are also not allowed to leave their table until their teacher dismisses them. If a student needs to get up for any reason, they should have permission from their teacher.
- If you have students that are in ISS for the day or class period—PLEASE send work to Ms. Moore for them to complete! You can also email directions to her with the student work if necessary!!
- As you are walking through the halls, if you see students in the hall, please take a minute to stop and ask students where they are going & whether or not they have a pass (escort them back to class if they do not have a pass)
Protect Your Instructional Time!! It's SO precious! We only have a little bit left!
- You have 80 minutes each day to make a difference in each of your student’s lives. Make your lessons so engaging and so interesting that students feel like they can not miss you class because they will be missing something so important that they will never be able to replace! Teach from bell to bell!
- If a student needs to leave your classroom for any reason, please send them with a pass. Students should also not be leaving your class during the first 15 minutes of the block or the last 15 minutes!
- If you have downtime in your classroom, students will fill the time with something—generally NOT what you want, which can lead to more behavior problems. Therefore, always have a backup plan or something to do once students have finished your assignment.
