Hi Roadrunner Family!
Westwood's Start with Hello Team Leaders are doing a Random Act of Kindness Day on Friday, December 3rd. If your child would like to participate, they can wear these colors:
TK/K: Green
1st: Yellow
2nd: Blue
3rd: Orange
4th: Purple
5th: Red
Please see the Great Kindness Checklist below for examples of what acts of kindness your child can do while at school or at home. We look forward to celebrating our kind Roadrunners!
XPLORATION
X-Ploration is excited to be back with students for our 2nd VAPA : Music lesson this year. With Lesson #6, primary students will use body movements to explore the differences between high, medium, and low notes, and begin to look at pitch within a song. When listening to various examples of music from around the world, students will discuss how different music makes them feel. They will discuss the following questions:
1. How does this music make you feel?
2. What about the music and how the singer is performing makes you feel that way?
Upper grade students will begin to distinguish between different types of instruments used within a song. With this lesson, students will be using small instruments to demonstrate their learning of dynamics, rhythm, and beat, while playing along to various songs.
Please remember that the standards for VAPA: Music allow for students to participate with each other using beat, rhythm, and music in a way that might be louder than normal within the classroom. X-Ploration teachers are aware of the classrooms around them and will do their best to keep the noise appropriate to the VAPA lesson being presented. Thank you so much!
MUSTACHE MOVEMBER
Looking for Student Voices
Looking for Student Voice
We are looking to feature PreK-12 grade student voices in our Quarterly Equity Newsletters. The purpose is to have an ongoing multicultural space for students to share their personal narratives/autobiographies. This is an open platform for students to share experiences and ways of being that allow readers to learn more about diverse ways of experiencing the world. Students could share through the lens of culture, tradition, family, school, etc. They could share celebrations, struggles, triumphs. Again, the more we can get our stories out in the world, the more awareness we build around our assumptions, biases, and single-story notions of others.
Once permission has been granted from parent/guardians to be featured in a future publication, narratives/autobiographies can be uploaded to the PUSD site folder.
A big thank you to Dr. Patel who was a thought partner on this very idea!
PLEASE CHECK OUR LOST AND FOUND
Any items remaining after the end of the school day (3pm) on December 17th will be donated.
**Due to health & safety concerns, any masks that are found are thrown away.
