Leadership Message
As our grade 4 students embark on their leadership journey this year to become leaders at JV through their active participation on their Leadership Teams: Ukrainian, Healthy Living, School Spirit, & Young Citizen, they will be learning about important ways to Lead like Jesus. By being compassionate, being a servant, being a good listener, and being inspirational. We know they will be the best they can be.

Keeping our school safe...Visiting the school Protocol
We also would like to kindly ask parents to wait outside at the doors for your children to be dismissed. Our halls become far too congested to have and extra bodies at the end of the day and students are working hard to learn routines. Thank-you for your cooperation and assistance with ensuring JV is a safe place for all students.
Parking
Always keep parking lot rules and safety at the forefront of any driving decisions you make in and around our school community. Every child deserves the utmost care and safety we can provide. Taking a few extra and cautious moments can make the difference and while some of the rules can seem over the top, preventing a serious accident or tragedy is the priority.
As we have more staff this year, parents are not permitted to park in the staff parking lot on the west side of the building. Do not drop off or pick up students from this parking lot. Parking is available up and down the street on Georgian Way.
Pick up is at 3:14 p.m. Students are to meet their parents outside the school. There is no supervision for students after 3:24 p.m. Please pick up your children no later than 3:24 pm.
No Parking in the Drop Off Zone
Using the parking lot as a drop off area creates a traffic jam in and around the school communities. Please respect the signs, our students, and each other.
If there are no parking spots available, please do not use the driving lanes as a drop off spot, or waiting area. Consider parking along Georgian Way, in behind our school on Garnet Cres, or up along Glamorgan Drive. Parking along the streets, and in behind the school creates an opportunity to walk with your child and catch up on their day, while avoiding the stress of the parking lot.
We are an APPLE school!
Aligning with our Apple School philosophy and our EICS Nutrition Administrative Procedure, we ask that all parents and school staff ensure strategies are in place to foster the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that promote safe, healthy eating. We recognize that breaking bread is an important element of our faith community and there will be times where we come together to share food in a celebratory manner. At these times, we will try to serve choices from the Choose Most Often and Choose Sometimes categories.
For nutrition purposes and because of the complexity of allergies at our school, we have asked staff and parents to please not bring in any food from home for class distribution such as; birthday cupcakes. While we recognize the value of celebrating in this manner, our commitment to the health and safety of our students takes precedence. Thank-you for your understanding.
Next Assembly Tuesday Sept 18th at 12:30 pm All welcome!
So much awesome Learning during the second Week of School

News from BUCPS
BUCPS is kicking off the year with its Annual General Meeting that will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Jean Vanier Catholic School library. Our first regular BUCPS Meeting will take place immediately after the AGM at 7:30 p.m. All parents are invited and we welcome you to attend! Moving forward, we encourage parents to attend these meetings regularly, as they will help keep you informed to upcoming events or initiatives BUCPS is working on, as well as provides an opportunity for parents to provide feedback. As a volunteer group, we are always looking to improve and with your support we feel that this will strengthen the Ukrainian program even further in Sherwood Park.
We are actively seeking 2 other roles to help out our Executive - a Marketing & Social Media Coordinator, as well as a Website Coordinator. If you have an interest in either of those roles, please email bucpssecretary@gmail.com for more information.
Mark your calendars for our BUCPS Annual Family Fall Zabava. It will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Ardrossan Community Hall. Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the Dance will follow at 8:00 p.m. We will also need volunteers for a variety of positions relating to set-up, silent auction, bartending and event takedown. In addition, we are seeking donations of SILENT AUCTION ITEMS to add to the festivities. Items may be left at the JV and St. Theresa school offices in attention of BUCPS. Please contact Clayton Starko at clayton@starko.ca if you are able to help with this much anticipated event!
Thank you to Irene Sombyk for continuing to teach our annual Fall Beginner Ukrainian Language Classes.
