As you may already know, this will be my last year as a principal at Hoover, I have decided to take a position as a math teacher for next school year at North Star. I want to express my sincere appreciation for your trust and support, this is a wonderful community of students, teachers and families, I know I will miss everyone. Ms. Lupe Guzman, an amazing educator in her own right, will be taking over the reigns for next year. She comes from the community, is very dedicated to it and knows of its needs so Hoover will be in great hands. My last day at school will be June 30th. I am proud to have served as your principal for the past five years. As I mentioned before, Hoover is such a great community with amazing staff and students, I am sure that you will continue to support the school as it moves further into the future.

We are six and one half weeks away from the last day of school, so we have officially entered the "home stretch". I wanted to to say thank you to all parents for sending their children to school daily and on time. This fact has allowed us to complete our ELPAC assessment almost in full with a few students still working on make ups this week. As we approach the end of the year, we have some major events that we all need to be aware off. Pls continue reading this letter to find out about them.

State testing will take place this year (The testing window is from May 9-27). This is a very important test, please make sure that your child attends school daily and on time every day, but most particularly during those dates.

CASSPP State testing will return this year, the window for assessment will be from May 9th -May27th. This test is for English Language Arts and also for Math for all students from 3rd-8th grade. You can find more info on this website.

Here are some tips to help support your children as they take the assessment:

• Take note of the dates for the assessment and bring your children to school daily and on time during those days
• Practice, practice, practice (see the link above for practice questions)
  
• Make sure that your child gets a good night sleep so he/she can do his/her best in the test
• Make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast, either at home, or choose from the healthy items that we offer at Hoover
  
• Talk to your child about the test, ask him/her how he/she did, express interest and stress the importance of doing a great job on the test, without pressure.
  
• Ask the teacher how the test is going, and how you can help at home

Participation on this assessment will provide great data for planning for next academic years, the results are also used to assess the quality of education that children get in Redwood City.
