Workhouses in the Victorian Era were where the poor who had no job or home lived,so they did jobs in the workhouse to earn their keep.Workhouses provided education, place to live, traning for a job,and medical care. There were seprate yards for men, women, and children

The not so good side of the workhouses

Workhouses were feared by the poor and elderly because the workhouses split up families, punishment may come from trying to speak to your family. Also it was not very helpful education, forced to wear a uniform, food was tasteless, and old and young all had to work very hard!

Workhouse Rules

A few of the rules were to not curse,no threating anyone at all, don't pretend to be sick, and never play games of chance or cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
