Dear Uvalde CISD Staff,
Last week was one of the best first weeks of school that I have been part of and it was due to everyone’s commitment to making 2019-2020 an exceptional year beginning with the first day of school. The enthusiasm, the energy, the smiles and the involvement at every campus was and continues to be contagious. I am hearing positive comments throughout the community and most especially from parents regarding the excitement that students are sharing with them. One place that confirms all of this positivity is in our attendance reports. Today was another excellent day – District-wide attendance was 95.71%
Last Thursday’s local newspaper stated we had 39 fewer students enroll on the first day of school compared to last year. As of today, we are no longer down in that category; we are at the exact number we were last year at this time: 4,241students. The future of Uvalde and the world is attending our classrooms, walking our hallways and eating in our cafeterias. They are coming to learn from the best – They are coming to learn from each one of you!
In one year Uvalde CISD moved from an ‘F’ to a ‘C’. Not because of one person but because of one cause and one vision – Our students and their future. Continue to be a difference-maker. Don’t settle for mediocrity but strive for extraordinary. We will define our own limits, not anyone else and because of each one of you, the sky is the limit.
Maroon Madness was a tremendous success, capping an exceptional week. The number of people who turned out with their children dressed in maroon is a testament to what each of you does on a daily basis and the pride you carry with you into your mission. ROTC and the marching band set the tone followed by cheerleaders and spirit squad. Athletes were close behind along with student organizations who all made their presence known. Numerous campus staff members braved the heat to journey to the Honey Bowl and show off their spirit. - Thank You!
Our district is fortunate to have dedicated and involved staff, students and parents who represent our district in many activities and events within our district and community. Below are a few of the sensational activities and events happening in our district. I couldn’t be more proud to work with each one of you and

Inspirational and Motivational Speakers
On Monday the USA Youth Outreach organization visited our district. The visit began at Morales Junior High, continued onto Uvalde High School and ended the day with a 7 pm FCA presentation. Our students were visited by guest speakers Lee Rouson and Fleceia Comeaux of USA Youth Outreach. USA Youth Outreach is dedicated to reaching the youth of America with a message of hope. Fleceia Comeaux’s message was encouraging and inspiring. With a strong message of, “I am who I believe I am!” Lee Rouson’s message was to always remain persistent in achieving goals. If you don’t have goals for yourself get some, “Move your chain!” These great speakers were made possible by the generosity of Wright Friday.

Crossroads Academy Exploding Out of the Starting Gate....
Friday was ended with a kind donation from one of our parents of a large cake and a celebration of student achievements including perfect attendance, course credit earned, and a focus on excellence. The Crossroads Academy team cannot wait to open their doors for week 2!
Outside the Classroom......
Model Technology Classroom
Blended Learning at it’s best. Mrs. Sanchez, Batesville's fifth and sixth-grade teacher, kicked-off the school year by utilizing the new classroom interactive display. Students had a chance to work with highlighting, underlining, and drawing on the display. Mrs. Sanchez shares, “We will learn together, to incorporate this great addition of technology on our campus.”
