Miller Elementary Newsletter
Week of 4-20-2020
Dear Miller Families,
Once again, I am sending my very best wishes to you and your families. I hope that you remain safe and well. Please reach out if there is anything we can do to support you. I apologize in advance that this week’s message is LONG and I have tried to be as concise and clear as possible. I ask that you take time to read all the way through as there are several important updates including information about this week’s launch of the Huron Learning Hub!
This week, our District’s Continuity of Learning (COL) Plan was approved by Wayne RESA, our Intermediate School District (ISD). Much of our plan at the elementary level reflects practices that we have already had in place over the past couple of weeks. The district ‘s Continuity of Learning plan can be accessed and read online.
Prior to this week our teachers have shared enrichment and supplemental learning activities. Starting April 20th, our distance learning will shift to new content and lessons. We are giving our best effort in order to provide a quality and engaging education for students during this time. Our hope is that students will engage in these lessons in order to build new skills in preparation for next year.
As always, please reach out with any further questions or concerns. Remember, we are ALL navigating this new normal together. I appreciate your support as we give our best efforts to our students. Take good care, stay safe, and healthy
Learning Times and Sample Weekly Schedule.
Each Monday teachers send out a template of lessons and assignments to all students in their class. These assignments are sent with detailed instruction as well as with links and sometimes video components that can be accessed Google classroom. Teachers will be hosting a Google Meet one day each week. The day and time will vary from teacher to teacher.
We understand that every family is being affected differently by these changing times. Our goal is to help continue each child’s growth and learning during this time away from school. The communication and contact with his/her teacher will allow us to support your child's learning.
Our teachers continue to work together as a grade level to create and share meaningful lessons that are aligned to your child’s current grade level curriculum. The lessons we are sharing are meant to give each child a successful learning experience.
If you are unable to access your child's email and password or need any other technical assistance send an email to the Huron Tech Help desk. helpdesk@huronschools.org
Student & Parent Guidelines for Google Meet
While we are very excited for our teachers to be able to connect with our students via Google Meet, we need you to be aware that there are expectations to make these times meaningful and enjoyable. :
Be Respectful: Mute yourself while listening, and only unmute when it is your turn to share.
Be Responsible: Dress appropriately
Be prepared if your teacher asks you to have something ready.
No siblings should join the meeting with you.
Be Safe: Make sure whatever we see in the background is appropriate.
Do not take photos or videos of any meetings.
DO NOT share your class meeting link, ID or password with anyone
Be Kind: Be positive in your comments and responses and be a good listener.
Virtual Kindergarten Round-up
We have started collecting information from families that are interested in enrolling their children in Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. We have to fine-tune some of the specifics for registration since we will have to do things very differently this year, so more information will come soon. Please feel free to let friends and families know that they can fill out a form so that we make sure they get communication. Feel free to pass along the link and/or our newsletter.
