Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
March has come and gone (almost) and warmer weather seems right around the corner. This time of year always brings a lot of activity; this week was no different.
White and Gold Night officially kicked off on Friday with an action packed evening. Many students and faculty decided to participate in this color war competition. The White Team prevailed in the penultimate event and took the inaugural crown. Smiles, laughter, and good-natured ribbing were seen and heard all around. Check out the pictures below for some fun moments from the evening.
On Tuesday, parents of current 8th graders came together to learn about the nuances of the upcoming transition to Woodbury High School. Course selection, how to navigate Naviance, AVID, credits, our Honors/AP program, the senior year experience, and the high school counselors were all discussed. Parents had the opportunity to ask any questions they may have had and get a general sense for what awaits their children. I've included a screencast below that walks you through course selection and Naviance that you could watch at your leisure if you were unable to make the meeting.
Juniors interested in participating in the Senior Year Experience at RCGC were able to take the Accu-Plaser test this week. Multiple staff members from RCGC came on campus to administer this placement test to our students. Everything went off without a hitch!
There are two upcoming high school events to look forward to on April 11 - NCAA workshop and National Honors Society Induction Ceremony. Student-athletes, their parents and coaches are invited to learn about Division I and II requirements, how to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse, and how to calculate your core GPA. Hope to see some of you there.
Coach Hartwyk would like to thank the anonymous donor who gave money to the Girls' Basketball team; that was so kind!
If anyone is willing to help out and volunteer at the Woodbury Relays on April 20 & 21 please contact Mr. Shivers at gshivers@woodburysch.com or 856-853-0123 ext. 257; we could use the assistance!
As you well know by now, spring break vacation has been cut short because of snow day make ups. Enjoy the remaining days off - Friday and Monday - with your families!
Keep Love Present,
Dr. Vivadelli

Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Kalb's 6th Grade Awareness Campaign
From Mrs. Kalb:
In December, the students read “A Long Walk to Water,” about a lost boy in Sudan who survives terrible circumstances and grows up to give back to his home country of Sudan. This inspired the students to give back in some way. They split into groups, chose a worthy cause, and designed a whole awareness campaign, which included a plan to make people aware of their cause and a way to fundraise. Before Christmas break, each group printed out their project and the teachers voted on which one they liked the best. The group that won was Theresa Strano, Jack Boyle, and Maria Medina. Their campaign focused on a homeroom competition, in which the top two fundraising homerooms got to participate in a scavenger hunt, and the proceeds went to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. They created a video and began the campaign in the beginning of March. It lasted for a week. They worried that they wouldn’t raise any money, and we discussed $30 as being a good goal. They ended up raising $241 for the cause!!
The top two homerooms were Ms. Weist and Ms. Gauthier. They got to go to the gym to participate in a scavenger hunt. Maria, Jack, and Theresa designed all the clues for the scavenger hunt. The clues led to a teacher’s room, and inside the room they had to complete a task before they got their next clue, like popping balloons until they found a message inside. The winning homeroom received a donut party.
I cannot say enough about Theresa, Maria, and Jack’s enthusiasm, devotion, and organization. They stayed after school multiple times to plan everything and they created a group chat at home using Google Hangouts to plan during after-school hours. Their parents helped them buy the materials, from jars to collect money, to solo cups and balloons for the scavenger hunt tasks. They came in early the day of the scavenger hunt to set up. It was so well organized and well thought out, that you’d never believe it came from three sixth graders. They were amazing. The only thing I did was give them space to plan and a little bit of guidance when needed.
Great job!
