Principal's Corner
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We have had a very productive start to our school year. It may not look the same, but the learning that is happening in our building and at home tells us that we are making a difference. As we finish out the first trimester, our teachers are making plans to enhance our current hybrid model of learning. You may start to notice Wednesdays will include not only a live lesson from the teacher, but also invitations to small group meetings to meet the needs of your child while they are learning at home. It is extremely important for your child to attend the live lesson and small group meetings each week. If for some reason your child is not able to attend the live lessons on Wednesday, please reach out to the teacher and let them know.
Thank you for everything you are doing to make this a very successful year for your child. We understand that this is difficult for everyone. We are happy to have you by our side when it comes to teaching your child.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Your partner in education,
Ms. Christina Johnson- Principal
Physical Education Matters
It has been an unusual year so far but we are still having fun and staying active in physical education.
After our practice half-mile run, the third-graders played a basketball unit (masks on and sanitizing). Second-grade played team handball (masks and sanitizing).
We are still choosing sports with minimal equipment and games that force us to spread out as much as possible as well. Recently, we finished some Halloween games called Ghostbusters and Mad Scientist. Ask them about it!
This year we are also doing an athlete of the week from the school every week. Our first two winners are Makalynn Cross and Makayla Miner. Their pictures will be hanging up in the main hallway in the showcase for the week they win, and then over to the hall of fame after their week.
Please try to stay active as much as possible during this time, it is a great mood booster, and keeps us all healthier! Also, if you have any old shoes that do not fit, I am always looking for more so that my students can borrow some when they come to PE if they need to.

A Note About Music
Happy fall from the Steeby music room!
Second grade - we have been working on reviewing so and mi and rhythms using quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests. We celebrated fall by singing fall songs and playing tone chimes to a song. We have also have been moving our bodies to songs and playing instruments like shakers to the Halloween song “Shiver and Shake”.
Third grade - we have been reviewing notes and solfege that we already know. We have been singing songs with a new note in them - “watermelon”. We have been singing songs about fall and have been learning about different styles of music. We also celebrated Halloween by playing boomwhackers to a song and moving our body using body percussion.

Media Moments
Greetings from media class! Students are excited to be back in the computer lab and learning on the computers.
So far we have visited educational websites on the Wayland Union Schools media page called Information Place https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home: which include PBS KIds, Abcya.com and Bookflix. Most students have also added media class to their Google Classroom app. I will be adding activities and videos related to media on Google Classroom.
Here are the Google Classroom codes.
